China's biggest air show could take off again without C919 narrowbody jet

Airshow China in Zhuhai
BEIJING/SYDNEY (Reuters) - China will show off its homegrown civil and military aviation technology at the country's biggest air show in November, the mayor of host city Zhuhai said on Tuesday, though there was no confirmation that would include the C919 narrowbody jet.
The C919, made by Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC) and designed to rival single-aisle jets made by Airbus SE and Boeing Co, is close to certification but has never been displayed or flown at previous editions of Airshow China.
The normally biennial show will be held from Nov. 8 to 13, with 740 businesses expected to take part offline and online, organisers said at a media conference in Beijing, up from 700 in 2021 when it held a show meant to take place in 2020 that was delayed because of the pandemic.
This year's show will include participants from 43 countries and regions, up from 40 a year ago, according to the organisers. China requires international travellers to quarantine for a week on arrival.

On the military side, as China steps up its presence in the Taiwan Strait, its first large-scale stealth long-endurance drone, Rainbow-7, will be among the items on display.
On the civil side, foreign companies including Airbus, Boeing and General Electric Co will attend alongside Chinese companies, Zhuhai mayor Huang Zhihao told reporters.
Western suppliers are behind some of the key technology in the C919, including the avionics and engines.
Two C919 jets arrived in Beijing on Sept. 13, in a move widely viewed as preparation for certification by the aviation regulator on Sept. 19, a symbolic date given the model number.
But that did not happen and the two jets remain parked in Beijing, according to flight tracking websites.
COMAC did not immediately reply to an email from Reuters seeking comment.
Herman Tse, valuations manager at Ascend by Cirium, said the approval was simply a matter of time.
"The local airlines will certainly support the China-built aircraft and grow the aircraft market share in the homeland gradually," Tse said in a website post last week.

Proved of U.S lack of confident now.

Yes, a very high tech dependency was found in F-35 planes. This secret technology is going to be insurmountable to replicate.

Then Goemaere said in an email to Defense News that the Defense Contract Management Agency notified the office about the possible regulatory noncompliance of the magnet alloy on Aug. 19, and the noncompliance was formally confirmed Sept. 2.

Indeed, instead of replacing him with an American magnet, I believe the Pentagon will soon grant immunity to the Chinese magnet.

Do you think that alloy is the only item made in China among all US military system?

Well if they are now analyzing the metal content (talk about thorough) in a magnet in a piece of machinery... I'm sure they have a good idea of where the more important pieces come from.

Some thing that American couldn't produced.

The way Western media fools their audience.
The western parts are intentionally included for certification, other wise it may take 20 years extra to get all the parts certified. Not that China can't replace it.

Obviously if you are flying a big passenger plane over the cities of foreign nations the people there are going to expect the parts to have been thoroughly vetted.

There is nothing stopping China from putting their own parts in planes that fly over their own territory. It's only when you cross the border that things get complicated.

I think you misunderstand me.

There might be hundreds if not thousands of "Made in China" parts all over US military equipment.
This is yet another stupid law by US politicians. An alloy will not morph into a robot !
US just end up wasting resources on non-value added activities.

You don't seem to understand the situation. This is like the EU being dependent on Russian gas. If the supply gets cutoff they are in trouble.

This is why the parts for the F-35 are heavily scrutinized. They want to make sure no part can be cutoff easily. That's why they were even testing the metal the magnets were built with. It was determined to be of an alloy ratio of Chinese origin.

This goes back to the US bombing the Shweinfurt ball-bearing plants in Germany. The Germans had moved much of their war production to hidden locations however this simple little noticed manufacturing company was overlooked and exposed. After being destroyed they realized that part was in so many German war machines it actually hindered their war effort greatly. This showed the cutoff of a tiny part can have significant ramifications.

If you mean NdFeB precision magnets, the top enterprises in this field are all in China.

Of course, I believe that the USA can easily obtain this technology. But I don't believe that the USA can make this technology produce commercial value.

No, it was a metal alloy..not an actual purchased magnet. The metal was used in the production of a magnet.

Every one of the more than 825 F-35 fighter jets delivered so far contain a component made with a Chinese alloy that’s prohibited by both US law and Pentagon regulations, according to the programme office that oversees the aircraft.

The Pentagon and Lockheed Martin Corp., which builds the aircraft, have found a US source for the alloy for future planes, the company said
