China-UK (Britain) Geopolitics and Economics: News & Discussions

Hong Kong under UK colonization = No election , only British appointed governors and colonial officials.

British want western sanctioned full free election only after returning Hong Kong to China. Why? Double Standard and self-imposed moral on the land they stole from China with immoral opium trade and bloody war to protect their evil opium drug cartel.

British is the most hypocrite country in the world along with US..

during opium war , they looted Chinese artifacts , instead return the artifacts to Chinese people , they keep it in the museum .. these people got no shame and disgusting

“We demand that Britain be discreet with its words and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs,” Geng added, stating that Beijing is “resolutely opposed” to Britain’s report, and that it does not accept its “improper comments” and “unfounded criticism” of China.

Hong Kong’s government also rejected the report, reiterating that foreign governments should not interfere in its affairs.
.
There is no need to issue a demand to Britain. It just words.

Just follow these steps.

1) Use the laws to kick out all NGO's that are funded by foreign governments/agencies. If the laws are inadequate strengthen them.

2) Direct more investments to Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, bypass England.

3) Setup new NGO's to support Scottish, Welsh and Irish referendums.

UK and US cannot criticize these steps, they are taken from their procedure manuals.

I predict there will be behavior changes by UK very quickly.

No matter what may be felt , UK support is showing in HK.
What kind of support that we can get from UK, while China cant provide? I'm not going to lie, if we still under UK control, our economy were already broke down back in 2004 after SARS. Remember that providing support to incite riot and to divide within HK society are hardly a support at all. UK never care about HK and our freedom as it clearly demonstrated as their colonial rule. We HK people now enjoy more political freedom than when we were still a colony, please learn the facts.

I couldn't agree more. Also during the colonial rule, UK took or "embezzled" a huge sum of money from our treasury back to their country every year, this kind of money were never made to the public and without our consent. We only know they took the money from us but never know the amount. Not to mention, they grant UK citizenship to everyone that born in their colonies, except us because they never care and treat us as part of their people. We were always their ATM and second class people. I'm so proud that HK is finally back to China and being Chinese citizen without discrimination. I didn't even bother to apply the so called "BNO", it is waste of money and useless since BNO holder won't able to get help from UK embassy.

Theresa May will visit China as she looks to revive the "golden age" between the two countries lauded by the previous British government.

The Chinese last year extended an invitation to the PM to attend its One Belt, One Road summit in May, although Number 10 on Tuesday refused to confirm whether this was the event she planned to attend.

The trip is the latest in a series of foreign visits with major trading powers as the UK prepares for Brexit process with the European Union.

It also marks an attempt by Mrs May to strengthen relations with the Chinese, which have been on the wane in recent months following George Osborne's departure from government.

The former chancellor had made increasing commercial ties with Beijing a centrepiece of his six-year tenure at the Treasury, with insiders saying his absence had been sorely missed by Chinese officials.

Lord O'Neill, the former Treasury minister and Golden Sachs chief economist brought into government by Mr Osborne to build relations with China, told Sky News last week that the PM had to make visiting China a priority.

He said: "We need to keep working on the golden relationship.

"It wasn't that long in existence and it came on the back of some previous challenged relationship with China, so it is something that I think needs to be given more attention that it probably currently is.

"She has been to many countries since her election, i think she should also prioritise going to China."

Lord O'Neill also said ministers needed to get out of their comfort zone and seek out new trading partners rather than focusing attention on older allies.

"It is understandable, because of the past, for some of our policy thinkers to think: 'Let's find our most similar structured linguistic political allies out there in Australia, Canada and NZ.'

"(But) to really change our future trade performance we need to be giving the same kind of energy to more complex and newer places that are going to be more important, like China, Brasil, India, and Africa."

In her seminal Lancaster House Brexit speech this month, the PM said China, Brazil and the Gulf States had expressed their interest in striking trade deals.

She also confirmed the UK had begun discussions on future trade ties with Australia, New Zealand and India.

Relations between China and the new Conservative government got off to a difficult start after Mrs May abruptly decided to review the £18bn Hinkley Point nuclear power plant in July, indicating that she had national security concerns about the scheme.

Mrs May subsequently approved the deal, but her decision to review the scheme, and failure to show the same enthusiasm for China as her predecessor, has prompted Beijing to question the "golden era in relations" - a sentiment the PM hopes this trip will address.

The visit is part of a wider global tour as Mrs May looks to strengthen Britain's global trading links.

Since the beginning of the year, the PM has visited the US and Turkey as well as hosting the Israeli and Italian premiers this week in the UK. She also visited Bahrain just before Christmas

Win-Win relations.

I see something good happening for at least three countries: China, UK and Pakistan...Good news for CPEC.
Yes , I believe so. As far as every party profits/benefits from such partnerships then why not ? Its good for everyone. :)

How did you manage to insert Pakistan in between trade talks of UK and China?
I believe it's because of this part in the article.

The Chinese last year extended an invitation to the PM to attend its One Belt, One Road summit in May, although Number 10 on Tuesday refused to confirm whether this was the event she planned to attend.

. .
Great admiration for Theresa May who has worked tirelessly trying to secure Britain's economic future in the post-Brexit world.

Her government has been trying to secure trade deals with a number of important countries.

I think that Britain will be one of China's greatest partners in the West. It doesn't matter whether it is Teresa May, David Cameron, George Osborne, etc.
