China to invest $2.2 trillion in transport by 2020

Talking about spending trillions on infrastructure, India had a grand plan too a few years back. They are catching up quickly.

Infrastructure is definitely one aspect where India should learn from the Chinese but also to make sure we don't overbuild these and end up having ghost towns and unused infra
Ghost towns? Seriously man?

WOW, a 2-trillion-GDP country planned to spend 1 trillion....
Have they done it?
@Bussard Ramjet

Thanks for the links. Is there website to show the progress of $1 trillion investment plan on infrastructure proposed 5-6 years ago?
I am really curious....
$1 trillion can build 40000 km high-speed railway at least.... (70% bridge/tunnel)

. .
$1T for 40,000 km HSR... the precondition is to give the orders to Chinese contractors. Otherwise, how?
I am calculating based on 160 million yuan per km and 70% bridge/tunnel (300-350km/h).

Or at least 60,000-70,000km controlled-access expressways (100-120km/h).....

. .
You are being realistically provocative.

$1 trillion is a very big number, so when they announced this grand plan in 2011-2012, I was really impressed. I am genuinely curious about the real progress of their plan. You know, India is the "fastest growing major economy in the world" now, so their infrastructure will/should take shape very quickly.

A dynamic country need good transportation, it's like blood vein on the body, a bottle neck or bad transport circulation will not healthy for the nation, I believe it's an worth investment of course other aspect as life are equality important such as environmental issue.

I'm reading the 13th FYP planning of railway construction (十三五铁路规划建设示意图). Very surprised to find a new railway line in planning that designed to connect Chengdu and Linzhi (林芝).

Given the extremely unfavorable geographical conditions between Chengdu and Linzhi, I do have concern on the feasibility of this railway line, although it makes lots of sense from national security perspective.

Yes, we are already very proficient in terms of building bridges and tunnels passing through mountainous areas, e.g. the most recent proof is the new HSR line passing through Qinling Mountains to connect Chengdu and Xi'an. But even though, the horrible geographical conditions in between Chengdu and Linzhi still makes me scared. @AndrewJin , hi Andrew, you are our best railway expert, mind to share your view on this new line? Thanks!
