Beijing's film regulators have slammed on the breaks on China's plan to gradually reopen cinemas.

After some 600 movie theaters across the country were given the green light to reopen their doors over the past week, China's Film Bureau put out a notice late Friday ordering all movie theaters in the country to go back into shutdown.

No official explanation for the sudden reversal was provided, but speculation within the industry instantly turned to assumptions that the government is worried about a potential second wave of coronavirus infections and does not believe mass moviegoing is yet safe.

The decision comes as a shock to the Beijing film industry, given the official signals authorities had been sending throughout the week. On Thursday, Shanghai's municipal government announced that 205 of the city's movie theaters had been given permission to resume business on Saturday.

They can sell cinema with half full. Every viewers must maintain an empty seat safe distance.

.
Social media say no audience showed up, people are just not mentally ready to enter movie theaters again so far.

Its so funny when u keep posting nonsense thread like "CN reopen the cinemas". Its only show that ur film makers r so desperate during the pademic.

Even tropical country like VN wt almost everyday sunshine containing ultrar violet ray that can kill all virus still having more nCov cases, so let alone Wuhan having temperatue only 7oC today.

Unfortunately this is not over till either "herd immunity" has been built up or a vaccine has been found.

I suspect that the world will have to live like we are doing for around another 12-18 months till a safe and effective vaccine is found.

@Avicenna - Appreciate your thoughts on my opinion on this.

I think China should show a litte restrain and not make hasty decisions. This isnt over yet.

Don't ask me for my opinion man.

I'm a pessimist.

This is scary whats happening.

Given the stakes, ignore economy and lifestyle in the interest of safety.

Agreed 100%

Human life of any age trumps money. Those who do not think the lives of old people matter can go and take a running jump for all I care.

It is scary that rich and developed Italy of 60 million lost nearly 1000 people over the last 24 hours.

Very risky mate especially in a closed set up with no proper air ventilation. Even social distancing wont help in such setups.
