china has set up Asia’s largest mobile radio telescope in Sheshan village in Shanghai. The project demonstrates the country's space observation technology is world class.

In 1987, China built the first radio telescopes in north-west China’s Qinghai province, which is affiliated to the Purple Mountain Observatory under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

25 years later, China has built a network of radio telescopes in the cities of Jiamusi, Heilongjiang province, Kashgar and Urumchi in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region, the Miyun district in Beijing, and Kunming city in Yunnan province.

An official from China Electronics Technology Group Corporation says the completion of the radio telescope in Shanghai means that China’s industrial technology has reached the most advanced level in the world.

Fan Youshan, Leader of China Electronics Technology Group Corp., said, "Large diameter radio telescopes are a hi-tech product. It has extremely high requirements for engineering mechanism design, machinery processing, industrial control, supercomputing, information analysis, and installation and construction."

China also plans to build an antenna system for a 110-meter-diameter radio telescope in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region while a 500-meter-diameter radio telescope is under construction in Guizhou province. They will further facilitate China’s space observation activities in the future.

Experts say the radio telescopes will form a radio telescope network with rigorous capacity to probe space and monitor near earth space. It also signals that China’s industrial manufacturing capacity is among the best in the world.
