What's new

China renames a river because it sounds Arabic

Changing name is evil? Its China river. Does change river needs your permission?

At least its better than US democracy.

What does democracy have to do with this? I'm against democracy but that's a completely different topic.

If someone snorts cocaine and another person says "cocaine is haraam" are you gonna come and say "At least it's not heroin"?

Shirk is worse than murder. So if someone commits murder will you defend it saying "well at least it's not associating partners with Allah"?

You can defend pretty much anything based on that weird form of logic.

Obviously, I don't really care that much about the name of the river but my issue is that China is basically waging a war against Islam while some Muslims are basically defending China since they're not the US.

I'm against US imperialism and it's a fact that the US is evil. However, I don't believe that I have to choose between criticizing the US or China. That's simply a false, made-up dilemma. I'm against US imperialism but that doesn't mean I have to be cool with people sticking Muslims in concentration camps.

You can hate us but that's ok, you are proud of your culture and we are proud of ours, it should be perfectly ok, attacking other countries cultures is not something a cultured person should do.

I haven't said anything hateful against you. My comment was based on history when Mao went on a warpath against chinese culture. That is what I mean by cultureless people.

History always produces radicals at some points, but Mao was dead for half a century already, traditional culture now is booming in China, our culture helps us develop the nation.

When will we be seeing a return in cultural dress en masse in China? I think leaders should lead by example. Maybe Chinese people need to ask why their leaders dress like westerners? That would more monumental than changing the name of a river.

Chinese culture is a joke now. A few years ago, a Chinese girl dressed in traditional Chinese dress, been assaulted by so called patriots, because these hooligans believes the girl was in Japanese traditional dress.

An ancient wise culture which produced confuscious,Sun Tzu and Taoistic duality. Much more beneficial than your warlords wiping their butts with stone in the desert. Good on them reclaiming their cultural heritage.
Spare a few kind words for us Gangus too.. will ya ? :)

Some do wear them but I doubt they'll ever come back as they used to be, cultures and clothing evolve with time, modern clothing is more convenient and more comfortable to wear, people in south Asia may like to stick to their traditional clothing, that's also perfectly ok, East Asians now prefer modern clothing, that's also a fact.

Chinese culture is a joke now.
Turks had no culture to start with, if you like to know more about Turks, you have to check Chinese history documents, you were just cultureless nomads.

read some reports where they're even going after Huis in the mainland, destroying minarets and other "arab" signs and symbols and replacing the architecture with traditional Chinese or non-Islamic style structures/language.

based CCP, god bless

That is not Hui architecture or culture.

Like almost any place, there has been an arabization of Hui Islam and culture, which was generously funded by Arab countries.

Hui didn't even have the Quran in Arabic for most of their history, and read a translated Quran (in Chinese).

Very true, here is the oldest mosque in Beijing, over 1000 years old, that's what a traditional Hui mosque looks like

If you happy to adopt western culture clothing then why does the name a river (which most chinese probably didn't even know existed) offend you guys so much?

I don't know about that and I don't trust those reports even going after a name changing, that's just too obvious for a motive. but still , China changes thousands of names for places big and small, even Beijing is a new name, it's not worth talking about.

Calling Chinese culture less people revealed you are either brainwashed or hateful person. China wouldn't have been what it is today without her well preserved culture and traditional value system.

Mao was critical to dregs of Chinese tradition, and his cultural revolution in essence is to emancipate the mind and to break down superstition, which sets China apart from the rest of developing countries.

Without Mao's culture reform, China would be another India or even worse.

Even the CCP has formally accepted that cultural revolution was a bad thing and was a failure, but you seem to keep insisting that.

Your statement could also be modified and written as:

Without Mao's cultural revolution, China would be another South Korea/Taiwan or even better!

It's good and bad, it's not a black and white issue, small places like south Korea and Taiwan, smaller than a Chinese province both in size and population can always be easier to fix, but a massive country like China and India, things can be very different, nothing short of a radical reform can shake those deep rooted cultural dregs.
