Featured China ramps up production of JF-17 fighter jet

Nazi germany 75 years ago had the capability of making jet engines, the technology is really not that difficult. The problem is making an engine that is up to modern standards, using modern materials, and modern manufacturing techniques.

Starting small though with helicopters or turboprops for drones/civillian use though might develop the industry enough to get to that stage; but only if the govt/military would finally allow private involvement in the defence/aerospace sector.

I think that's the problem with our people.. We want the Mercedez when we don't even know how to drive the freakin tricycle..

As far as people saying we can't do it. Well, they said that about the Nukes too but we have those right now. So I think the Brains are there just the will is lacking.

China has ramped up production of JF-17 fighter jet, which was jointly developed with Pakistan. In the first half of 2020, the number of aircraft delivered was the most in the past five years, according to industry reports.

As of June 30, the production line of the JF-17 has on average shortened the production period of a single aircraft by 15 days compared to last year, China Aviation News, a newspaper affiliated with the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), reported last week.

The Pakistani Air Force is the main operator of JF-17 fighter jets. Myanmar also flies the Chinese-Pakistani made fighter jets.

The latest, powered-up version of the JF-17, known as the JF-17 Block 3, made its maiden flight in December 2019, the Aerospace Knowledge magazine reported then.

In March 2019, Yang Wei, chief designer of the China-Pakistan co-developed fighter jet, said development and production of the JF-17 Block 3 was underway, and the third block will see the JF-17's information-based warfare capability and weapons upgraded.

Some other countries have also approached AVIC about purchasing the JF-17 Block 3, Yang said last year.

Good pakistan must support china by PAC to make it more efficient for chinese to manufacture these fighters for ... where the fighter going though ? Bagladesh myblmmar nigeria?

How about the budget?

In the past, China lacked the fund for developing WS-10 engine...
I think Pakistan developing a fighter is different than China developing a fighter.

China has to develop the whole thing grounds up. Design, materials, engine, electronics including ICs and so forth.

Our model may be more like Gripen where design (based on requirements parameter), machining fabrication (including) electronics would be local. But we will rely on China for engines, advanced materials, ICs and complex sub-systems.

Totally agreed.
But they are talk about engines which is different.

This News Item didn't understandable at all, Can someone help.
What Actual type of JF17 China is producing record breakingly?

If its JF17 Block 2, then there isn't great need of it. Stock in hand should be suffice, money should be saved for Block-3 productions and accessories development.

If its JF17 Block 3 without upgraded Engine, then why that much panic? its debatable to pursue a half backed asset in such a hurry. I don't think PAF would be that immature. At least we can wait a year as Rafale needs 1.5-2 years for mature operations.

Jet engine development can be started by making jet engine for cruise missile.

.
we need to get rid of many mirages and F-7s man

We need to shoot down an Indian Mig-21 in an F-7 first tho

It's time for Pakistan to make their own jet engines.

Let's not become like Indians and try to re invent the wheel. Even developed countries are struggling with jet engines. We already have too much to deal with like AZM.

People should understand making a jet engine takes twice as long and twice as expensive as developing a fighter jet.

First step is licensed production and full rebuild capability. This is something where we are probably headed towards. Saab does same and a lot of aircraft manufacturers rely on existing engines to reduce risk and cost.

Second step local design only needed if what you need is not available or no one is selling you the type of engine you need. So as long as we have suppliers for engines we don't need to spend extra to make our own design which is extremely expensive and a lengthy process both of which we cant afford to bare.

For cruise missile components I believe we received TOT for components and made our own improvements.

and why not, can pakistan not start manufacturing them locally for its own use and then expand to turbo prop and other types. in parallel start investing in capabilities of designing a new one from scratch, plan for next 20 years.

are nuclear weapons more difficult to research and make than jet engines?

not to point finger at u but most of pakistanis have a defeatist mindset !
