Nope. We only established beach-heads and were trying to provoke Pakistan into giving us a casus belli. Pakistan remained patient for a long time but then they decide to move hard - after they were assured of the support from the 7th Fleet. Before Dec 3rd, we did not make any naval action, any blockade, any mass bombing, any air attack etc.

Of course, we took a few villages, some high ground - because we knew that we will be making the offensive moves. We planned everything to the 'T'. Manekshaw was making plans since April 71. We would have invaded East Pakistan on December 4th. But before that, given our baniya mentality - we wanted you to give us the excuse. So there were border battles (like Battle of Atgram etc) that were fought from 21st November to December 1. Thankfully and as expected, Pakistan lost its nerve and went for a pre-emptive air attack to knock out the IAF and failed, thereby giving the go ahead we so sorely needed.

The Operation Searchlight was launched not only to eliminate the Mukti Bahini but also to 'change the Bengali race'. The war was extended to the Dhaka University - where the teachers and students were also gunned out...all unarmed of course. I am not blaming the PA - they have always maintained a fearsome reputation, especially to 'undesirable' people. All that mattered and matters to us was and is that we got the perfect reason (or if you say excuse) to poke our nose.
