China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ordered the closure of the US consulate in Chengdu days after the US forced the Chinese consulate in Houston to cease operations. CNN's Kristie Lu Stout reports.

this was of course, *after* the US ordered a Chinese consulate in the US closed because they were burning documents in the backyard of that consulate.

Pompeo (ex-chief of the CIA if i'm not mistaken) has also fired the first shots over the Chinese bow (of the CCP "ship"), when he said that the Chinese will be held to new rules, and 'when they don't, [we'll show them true strength]'..

*i* don't like to see trade wars escalate into intelligence wars and wider economic wars, people.

Actually diplomatic war is much more impactful than an economic war. Economic war takes too long to materialize and see the effects so Trump has now resorted to a diplomatic war. But the ramifications of a diplomatic/political war is much more serious than a trade war. The Houston and now the Chengdu consulates may never reopen again.

one thing is for sure : the next meeting between President Trump (who will without a doubt get re-elected, i think) and Xi-Jing-Ping (i hope i spelled his name correctly) is going to generate a lot more nervousness, or excitement, depending on how much news a viewer has absorbed over his/her life until that meeting happens..

you're mistaken. all it takes is a friendly meeting or two between the nations' top leaders, and you can have entirely new consulates pop up like vegetables in farmland in summer

I think the US did this because of the China Iran deal. But it's very minor. For for tat.

that's, i think, because of Russian meddling with US elections.. and now the Russians have escalated that into violent riots in the streets of the US which amount to a full scale attack on the US Republican leadership using the US Democrats as pawns, bishops and rooks on a chessboard.
