China offers assistance to typhoon-hit Philippines

ALOT. Most Japanese-Chinese are Southern Chinese. Its only recently that there are Mandarin speakers immigrating to the country as international students. I wonder why tho. I think Cantonese are very apt to travel abroad eh? They succeed really well abroad too, i notice. In Southeast Asia the Southern Chinese (Teowchew, Hakka, Cantonese) are the elites there. I think in the West too, the pathfinders were always the Southern Chinese. Interesting right?

@Chinese-Dragon , do you know the reasons for this? Do they mention anything in Chinese history about this?

maybe because the cantonese is a good carpenter, during the hard time in china, they make their own boat and sail away across the world.. mostly in southeast asia.

he he he, i think so too. Cantonese or Hakka are two groups of Chinese that I do greatly admire. For one because of their hardy resolute character, the second is that they have a culture of inclusivity. I studied Chinese History many years ago and one thing that i admired about Hakka people is that a culture of "helping each other" has always dominated their life. Even the homes that they lived in emphasized the need to work together and to protect each other from threats. These homes were called 土楼 : tu lu:

This is why Hakka people are known to help each other out. Hakka Chinese communities in Japan are one of the most close-knit ethnic minorities in Japan and they preserve their culture rather well. I also know that Hakka Chinese who live in Southeast Asia such as those in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and in the Philippines are very close knit and hard working.

The same goes for Cantonese people , who are regarded as very industrious and strong entrepreneurial spirit. It is known that Canton (Guangdong) is THE RICHEST province in all of China. And interesting to know that the Cantonese-Chinese who settled in South East Asia are also extremely successful business owners such as:

Nicholas Lim (Malaysian businessman)
Chang Fon Ann (richest Malaysian)
Eu Tong Sen (Malaysian businessman)
Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng (Chinese Malaysian)
Lucio Tan (Chinese Filipino)
Alfredo Yao (Chinese Filipino)
John Gokongwei (Chinese Filipino businessman)
Ramon S. Ang (Chinese Filipino businessman)

Also for the record.. 8 of 10 the richest man in Indonesia is dominated by Chinese... ( it's hard for you to google it, you might can't tell the difference from the name because of the Suharto policy forbid Chinese name)

Not also Hakka and Cantonese, but also teochew very dominate in southeast Asian industry

Grandfather of my Thai friend also a teochew, he can speak teochew and Thai very well and I meet him once during my Holliday..
He told me how he build his empire business from zero..
He came from China at the age of 15.. Settled in Thailand, Working as a labor for a year, after saving enough money he open his own small bussiness Cooking and selling teochew cuisine ( fried noodle / Keng ci kue tiaw) at the side of the street..
Bussiness not doing good, he broke after 2 years and moved to small village , he told me at that time he's quite frustrated.. He wanna became farmer, he plant some tapioca and find out he can make more money with tapioca..
It took 35 years later he can own his first tapioca factory.. Try to imagine, for 35 years he proceed tapioca manually..
And now after 2 generation , they own 5 tapioca factory , probably the largest in Thai..
My Thai friend is third generation, from his mother side family, all his relative doing really great in tapioca bussiness.. His uncle is the most successful among his brother..

It's all about embrace the pain.. Keep working, save money and invest..
Most chinese or East Asian , they farsighted..
People always making a joke about East Asian eyes, but we are gifted with farsighted..

Couple of years ago I completed a summer internship in Philippines to observe how their HRM programs , and I had the pleasure of touring one Filipino company based in Cebu City and Mandaue City , it is called (I'm sure you've heard of it before and tasted it, lol) San Miguel Beer. Anyways, i had the pleasure of visiting their distillery plant located in Mandaue, as well as able to meet and work with some of the operational managers around the facilities there. I was surprised to see and find out that the chairman (Ramon S. Ang) and President (Roberto Huang) as well as other key figures in the executive board of SMC are Chinese-Filipinos. Tho clearly their names have been Filipinized. Its interesting to see how Chinese were considered lowest in the social order during the Colonial period in philippines, but have risen to the top in the Filipino society now. Anyways, most of the Chinese in Cebu, Bohol, Bacolod, Iloilo, Leyte (these are central provinces of Philippines) are Cantonese or Hakka. For example Ramon Ang and Roberto Huang are both Cantonese. They are fluent in Cantonese, despite the fact that they are 2 or 3 generations settled into that country.

That seems to be the common theme of Chinese in Southeast Asia; they came as poor, but they eventually become successful through hard work. I think it is also the confucian culture that emphasizes saving.

That's the first time i've heard that saying. Anyone that usually makes fun of our facial phenotype are nothing but bigoted imbeciles. East Asians are also gifted with the highest IQs in the entire world. We are an intelligent Race.
