I don't necessarily disagree with the rest too, just that the quoted portion was relevant to our discussion. British were quick to banish the firebrand revolutionaries like Rishi Aurobindo and Veer Savarkar to the faraway Andamans.

The Irony of removing Veer Savarkar from the History book was lost on the congress party.

The British sent Veer Savarkar to Prison in Andamans BECAUSE HE WROTE A HISTORY BOOK.

His book "The Indian War of Independence" was the original crime for which he was sentenced to torture and imprisonment. This book was duly Banned but revolutionaries printed this in secrete and distributed it. It inspired revolutionaries from Bhagat singh to Chandrashekar azad to Netaji Subash chandra bose.

A copy of this book was recovered from Bhagat singh when he was arrested. His influence on Netaji can be see by observing that the women wing of the Azad Hindu fauj was named after Rani Laxmi bai. It was Veer Savarkars book that brought out the role of Laxmi Bai in the 1857 revolt. Among other things.

But isn't it equally true that Netaji was also critical of Savarkar and his organisation, and Sarvarkars support to British didn't go well with Netaji who was seeking allies elsewhere?

Both were fighting for the same cause, but using different means.

During British Raj, Indians were not allowed to either own Guns or learn how to use them.

The only way they could do that was by joining the British Army.

So Savarkars advice to Indians were to join the british army during their mass recruitment drive due to WW2 and learn how to use the gun, survive the war and then use the skills learnt during the war to make India free. And that is exactly what happened in the End. It was the mutiny and the presence of armed and trained Indians that forced the British to free us.

OTOH Netaji plan was to ally with the Other powers and join them to take down British rule.

But both wanted to free India using arms and not Non violence.

In the end it was Veer Savarkar's plan that succeeded , though it does not take away anything from the heroic efforts of Netaji bose.

The cunning bania called Gandhi ran away with all the credit.

Another irony of those calling Savarkar "terrorist" is that Savarkar's own brother was Lynched by the Congress in dadar (mumbai) in the after math of Gandhi's assassination when there was mass lynching of Brahmins.

Another thing the congress has successfully managed to keep away from history books.
