China leads world in forest area gain from 2010 to 2020: UNFAO
14:10, 24-Jul-2020

China ranked first in the annual net gain in forest area over the past decade, according to the Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020 released by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO) on Tuesday.

The report shows a continuous shrinking in terms of global forest area since 1990, with a net loss of 178 million hectares. But the reduction pace has slowed down significantly due to forceful protection measures of some countries.

China's contribution to the world in terms of forest protection and afforestation was underscored repeatedly in the report.

According to the report, Asia has registered the largest net gain in forest area from 2010 to 2020, which mainly concentrates on east Asia attributed to a net annual gain of 1.94 million hectares in China.
