Aug. 11: After America, it is China that has sought to avail the expertise of the Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School of the Indian Army to tackle urban terrorism and low intensity conflict.
Disclosing this here on Monday, the commandant of the Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School Brigadier Anil Ram told this newspaper: "The joint military exercise Vajra Prahar is aimed to enhance the interoperability between the two forces."
Informing that the joint exercise of Indo-US special force was progressing well, he said, "The three-week long joint exercise is going to conclude on August 24 and our basic moto is to motivate these soldiers through rigorous training to enable them to fight the guerrilla like them." He added, "We are training soldiers for the modern war, which is increasingly unconventional."
The 24 US soldiers who are taking part in the joint military exercise inside the rugged terrain of Mizoram are from the Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets of the US Army. They are graduating in eight primary missions unconventional warfare, foreign internal defence, special reconnaissance, direct
action, counter-terrorism, counter-proliferation, psychological operations and information operations.
Brig. Ram said: "The US soldiers are also sharing their experiences in tackling urban terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan, while the Indians are sharing their tactics used in Jammu and Kashmir and parts of the Northeast."
