There's development in Tibet. Sure, some of their culture may be lost through the ages. Sometimes, we have to step over things of the past and move on. No use chasing ghosts of the past.

The point is, China and moving on. And that shouldn't be anyone's problem.

Also, actors commenting on politics and strategy do not add any value whatsoever. So lets not go ka pow over it :D

Yes we should move on.
But one thing very clear, tibetans are not happy.
Its like keeping dove in golden cage, and saying its happy.

Mr Gere can bring a lot of attention to his cause by setting himself on fire, maybe a few concerned forum members here will also join in the endeuver.

I find it hilarious that Bharots are commenting on the 'oppression' of Tibet considering the Kashmir issue over the decades. There have also been many insurgencies throughout the country's existence, and they still exist now.

Was that not out of Indian 'oppression' that drove them? One can argue forever over his side of the story and that similarly goes for the one causing the insurgency.

Have people suffered? Yes. Have people been killed? Yes.

The fact is that there have been far more insurgencies in India alone relative to China. In fact, more than anyone else in the neighborhood.

I mean what can I say, Bollywood and cricket are just some of the primary means to keep that country together.

Apparently they are it's futile. Oh don't worry we made them stop attacking our troops a long time ago.

Yes i agree, its definitely futile.

They cannot fight with might of chinese army or even police.
Both the parties should find out amicable solutions.

I support cause of free tibetans from oppression.
Its quite obvious now that they are not happy with development (settling of han chinese in tibet) thats why they are selfimmolating (some posters are making fun of such painful and courageous deaths).

But still what richard gere knows? he is just an actor....

Yes, we should keep modern technology and development away from tibet since they are not exactly compatible with the good old traditions and religions.

and oh yea, sure, why not? Han people is invading a high-attitude Plateau where they couldn't even breath normally.

let's see how many those damn Chinese have got into tibet!

"At the end of 2000, the total population in Tibet was 2.62 million. With diversity in terms of distribution, most people live in rural areas, and fewer in cities and towns. The population of the Tibetan nationality accounts for over 90% of the population, but that of the Han nationality and other ethnic groups is very small."

but surely they are increasing!

"The Han population living in Tibet was 2.93% in 1953, 4.85% in 1964, and 3.09% in 1982. "

I agree with that however the son of India is praying for more of them killing themselves :undecided: so how can you work with that ?

Again, whatever actors say over such issues have no real value whatsoever.

Yes we should move on.

So since some of the NE Indian folks haven't been happy in the past, does that mean I should interfere? The Tibet issue is China's own problem. Life goes on.

Again, the Dalai Lama yielded almost no results whatsoever. China will not let Tibet be independent like India won't let Kashmir and Assam be independent.

Every country would do the same. It doesn't matter how much another would cry and yell over the issue.

he claimed he is the son of India son.

He says that because India was the only country that stood up to accept him, in his exile... By the way this process works the same way as an exile from Cubans to America..............

There is apparently a discourse in a society for humans (to have such motivations to escape from that discourse) to escape, and it looks like the theology of communism is it!!!!!!!!!!!

The Freedom from Communism is more motivating then creating wealth!!!!!!!!!! Think about this............

ok if he feels so free, have him stay in India.

wonder why millions of Indians are moving away from democratic India to become slaves to Gulf arabs.

Poor returns indeed. They hosted the exiles in 1959... and they got the 1962 war and a nuclear-armed Pakistan in response.

And even then, the Dalai Lama still says that Tibet should NOT have independence.

when you group with good and competent business partners, even can make a small unattractive business into a huge one. when you have a good business prospect but partner with inferior people you can make the business like the landscape from slums--this is the perfect definition of Indian and Lama partnership:tup:
