One aircraft could have been put but I think they needed the deck completely clean for the ceremony.

Really? Are there any reports of any fixed-wing aircraft landing on the ex-Varyag? Are there any reports of Chinese pilots ever landing a fixed wing aircraft on any aircraft carrier?

Ex-Varyag? We bought a brand new never used stripped hulk that supposed to name Varyag so there's nothing about the varvag except the hulk. Years before the Liaoning had her first trial, we built an identical runway on top of some roof or ships (I don't recall which). I saw a pcture somewhere in the net and there's no need for me tell you what was that for.

Trust me, China will not commission, for training or for keep, a carrier without its most important arsenals in its quiever. The rumor from the pros in the grapevine is the Flying Shark and I'll post the hook wing of this baby when I find it in one of the thread here.

Actually China aircraft carrier will be used mainly as a UAV carrier. It will have two types of UAV. One for monitoring with long endurance and another with weapons systems. The A/C will be based within the first island chain.

To ensure sovereignty over these islands, the use of these long endurance UAVs to monitor the numerous islands is the best strategy. The Chinese aircraft carrier would be able to staffed up to 200 of these UAVs. It is cheap, it will risk no pilot and it is within range. UAV would be small and almost invisible. The carriers would be protected by the carriers based fighters and also by shore based air defense system.

China already placed numerous satellites covering the South Seas and the East Seas that would provide the communication links with the UAVs. Using a carrier would not require any large refueling tanker which would be needed by fighters from Okinawa including the F22. These large refueling tankers would just become large targets.

Chinese are really very clever.
