On Donald Trump's Terror Criticism, China Says 'Pakistanis Made Huge Sacrifices'
US has cautioned that Pakistan could lose its status as a major US ally and see its US military aid suspended.

BEIJING: China on Friday defended Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts, following President Donald Trump's accusation that Islamabad harbours terrorists attacking US and Afghan troops.

"The government and people of Pakistan have made huge sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and such efforts and sacrifices are there for everyone to see," Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said.

"The international community should recognise that... and give Pakistan the full credit it deserves," he added.

The remarks were made at a press briefing in Beijing following a meeting between Wang and Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.


In a major speech outlining US policy on Afghanistan last month, Trump slammed Pakistan for offering safe havens to "agents of chaos" and suggested relations would be adjusted immediately. He offered few details.

Following Trump's remarks, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also cautioned that Pakistan could lose its status as a major US ally and see its US military aid suspended.

Asif on Friday said it is Pakistan's firm view that maintaining regional security is a "critical" priority and focus should remain on peaceful solutions.


He also thanked Beijing for its role in hosting a trilateral Afghanistan-China-Pakistan foreign ministers' forum, which is expected to take place before the end of this year.

Islamabad has repeatedly denied claims of being soft on terrorism, accusing the United States of ignoring the thousands who have been killed in Pakistan and the billions spent fighting extremists.

Last year, the then-top foreign official Sartaj Aziz stated that the Taliban's leadership does enjoy safe haven inside Pakistan, which Islamabad uses as a "lever" to pressure the group into talks with Kabul.

Pakistan might have made sacrifices (Trump acknowledged it too) but its about time Pakistan prevented those sacrifices from being wasted.

To, all the people, in a particular area, if a moon exist, it should be visible. How is it that only Indians can interpret the BRIC's joint statement in a particular way? When it is highly general and the only thing relevant to Pakistan is the name of two militant groups already banned in the country.

And if the Chinese were trying to deliver Pakistan a message and hoping to get some of their demands met or their concerns addressed, they shouldn't be back-tracking and saying something different now. Why? Because, it creates confusion and sends a wrong message. It makes nearly certain that what they earlier wanted to accomplish, wouldn't come to fruition anymore. Hence, there was no "deeper message" in the joint statement.

Please check stats of bomb blast in Pakistan from 2010 to 2016 and then 2016 to 2017. You will have your answer.

Blaming is very easy for west. It's not their country or people lives that is on stake here.

That's how you perceive the statement.
Let me give you an example of Israel. This tiny country is most of the time at the receiving end on all the international platforms. But countries including those which are voiceferous about Palestine issue indulge in trade and intelligence sharing with Israel. Infact this is true for Iran too.
This is a human trait which can be observed at individual level also.
To me China's statement is one such example of this trait. That's how I perceive it.

How is it in any way contradictory? China is not blaming the pakistani government, they have made it clear that the government and people of Pakistan has made tremendous sacrific in the war against terror. In the BRIC statement China, conceded to India because it is still important that China doesnt have the US use india against it in ASIA. They spoke about terrorist groups, they did not say anyhing against the Pakistani governmen or people. This is why your country is so corrupted, the world isnt Balck and White!

That's what I am saying, you have proof, placement put forward. Even this offer given to USA. When Pakistan says that they are having terrorist from Afghan border and it must be guarded or sealed or fences. No one want to listen. Regarding Israel, Leave USA supporting Israel and you will have your answer. So to me and for most pakistani, USA is just blaiming while loosing war in Afghanistan and Pakistan is winning war within country against terrorism and just let the fence thing complete in afghan border.
