China has deployed large numbers of troops and weapons along a disputed Himalayan border in violation of bilateral agreements, India's foreign ministry has said, accusing Beijing of escalating tensions and triggering a deadly clash last week.

"At the heart of the matter is that since early May, the Chinese side had been amassing a large contingent of troops and armaments along the LAC," foreign ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said in a briefing in New Delhi on Thursday, referring to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto border between the Asian nuclear powers.

Srivastava said "this is not in accordance with the provisions of our various bilateral agreements," referring to treaties that include a 1993 one that dictates that both sides will maintain limited border deployments.

India had "to undertake counter deployments" because of the Chinese buildup, he said as New Delhi acknowledged for the first time it has matched Beijing in massing troops at their contested Himalayan border.

China has blamed India for the clash - the deadliest between the two nuclear-armed neighbours for at least five decades - and said Indian troops attacked Chinese officers and soldiers.

Responding to the heightened Chinese presence last month, India also deployed a large number of troops along the LAC, Srivastava said, leading to face-offs in the Ladakh region of the western Himalayas.


On June 15, Indian and Chinese troops brawled for several hours in the Galwan Valley, using stones and sticks with nails embedded in them to beat each other, killing 20 Indian soldiers and injuring at least 76 more. China has not disclosed how many casualties its troops suffered.

The neighbours have blamed each other for the high-altitude battle. After senior military commanders held parleys this week, both sides have since agreed to disengage their troops on the disputed border.

But in satellite images reviewed by Reuters news agency, China appears to have added new structures near the site of the Galwan Valley clash that India says is on its side of the LAC. These include camouflaged tents or covered structures and a potential new camp under construction with walls or barricades.

"Peace and tranquility in the border areas is the basis of our bilateral relationship," said Srivastava, demanding that China follow up on its pledge to cool tensions. "A continuation of the current situation would only vitiate the atmosphere."

I think you are mistaken. It used to be the case. But Indians have invested heavily in DBO , updated the airfield, build the new road from Leh, so they can do drop in to Siachen from DBO. That's what the war with China is about.
DBO is used to connect to Tibet via the Kurakaram Pass and supply to Siachen, duel purposes.

i know about DBO, but again, as i said above, siachin supply lines have nothing to do with ladakh intrusions from LAC . even if PLA does capture DBO, it will barely impact siachin


siachin main supply is SRINAGAR - LEH road via the town of kargil . pakistan attempted to cut in 99 yet failed to do so given short sightedness of objective

kargil town and leh town both have modern air fields , just in case pakistan cuts off srinagar - leh road , air lift can be made easily to replenish siachin elements

lets not under estimate our enemy please, they will not let go kashmir that easily

The Road from Kargil goes towards Pakistani areas Keris and Skardu. Other end , it goes downwards to Leh, from where they have now constructed the road to DBO.
Most of the supplies to Siachen were by air.

China and Pakistan should work together to suffocate India and crush Indian bullshit games in the region which they are doing to please US.

the road starts from srinagar , onwards to kargil , then to Leh which is the staging area for siachin base ( indian side)

pakistan tried to cut kargil town using direct fire in 99 with OPs yet were pushed back . air lifting was the last resort left to Indian army ,which never was required since the road was never cut ( poor planning by PA, nothing else)

either way, PA was not even contemplating a two way battle to take siachin in parellel while choking supplies in kargil .

I don't know what you are looking and how you looking. From Leh to DBO is the new road watched by China now.
There was never had been a road from Kargil to Siachen. Indians had been using air power from DBO.

Misleading statement by sabir Shakir. All these PLA positions shown are those held by PLA since 1962, & are on its side of the LAC.

1) PLA has NOT crossed LAC in DBO or Despang plains area.
2) Siachen is NOT supplied through these areas but from LEH.
3) PLA at its nearest is 55 KM from "cutting off" Siachen supply line. And even for that, they will have to occupy not only Shyok river valley but also Sasser Ridgeline.
4) PLA has not even cut off the DBO's supply line i.e Shyok river valley and its DSDBO road.

Sabir Shakir is not an authority, his Geography is not good either, he accepted and apologised for wrongly associating an area to NE India. I have cross checked his video with Indian sources and posted the Article by India Today.
It states;
"The satellite images of June 22 from Maxar Technologies clearly indicated that the PLAGF has, in fact, come further forward to assert their claims to the Galwan Estuary.

An interesting development was observed yesterday in the Depsang Plains opposite India's Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) sector. Chinese troops have come forward and deployed around their existing posts in this area."

Furthermore, China's Point 5390 is overlooking DBO airport and could disrupt Indians' plans.

Could you please explain how Siachen is supplied from Leh!!

A historical fact that India was able to make its way into Siachen earlier than Pakistan since the the London based supplier of mountain gear with whom Pakistan was negotiating to purchase the gear to move into Siachen informed india earlier of Pakistan's plan to move in and as a result india got a heads up and they moved in earlier and occupied the high ground.

That is all water under the bridge now and Siachen remains an unfinished war

Pakistan must revisit the Siachen status quo in light of the the new situation arising in Galwan valley

pakistan should have simply let india take it.
they can sit in Siachen if they want..
its dead zone with no strategic importance..

in the grand scheme of events..Siachen will fall first being so close to Kargil
so whoever is sitting in that dead desert is losing men and money

This area was "open area" between Indian held Kashmir and Azad Kashmir since the Line of Control was not demarcated in this region , it was left open perhaps as a mistake or the fact that it was thought to uninhabitable

India moved into it and occupied the heights surrounding the glacier , if India could move in on the heights surrounding the glacier then it could push further inwards into Azad Kashmir so leaving them uncontested was not an options.

In the current situation , the Indians are at peaks that are some 3000 feet above Pakistan's position so its already more difficult for them to maintain their positions there due to more extreme weather conditions, India will never admit it but being further high up the weather conditions are even more extreme

There is even a thought in Indian military that occupying the heights around the glacier was a mistake and what they should have done was gone down further into Gayari for holding a positions where weather is less extreme

In summary letting India have its way in Siachen was not an option and is still not an option so should revisit it in light of the new developments in the region.

Repeating same thing few more times does not add anything. I keep asking how the supply from Leh to Siachen is carried!! Could you please tell us that!!

Supply from Leh to Siachen is carried via the Khardung La road , it's roughly a 6 hour journey by road to get to india's base camp which is located at the base of the glacier and from where the Nubra river begins

Well you are pointing to the lower steppe of the Glacier where it meets the River Nubra. But the deployments facing Pakistani troops goes right up to the heights and to the triangle of border of Pakistan, China and India.
Thanks to the sleeping prowess of Pakistani Generals, India was allowed to sneak in and capture the area, which wasn't militarised before.

The Karakorum Pass can be seen just near the norther tip of Siachen Glacier area. Indians have build this road to DBO because it goes further north then the road you have mentioned. And with the added advantage of an Airstrip , it becomes more strategically important.
The Indians have to airlift the supplies from the road you have mentioned. From River basin to the top of the Glacier is steep climb.
