I think is rare earth metals, China has 44 million mt of it, Russia has 22 million mt and Brazil and Vietnam has 21 million mt each. Most other countries have sub 2 million mt each. Russia is not going to help the US, and China can shut down Vietnamese production since they are so close. The only country with a large deposit that American can access is Brazil and Brazil is a part of BRICS. So American can be denied about 87 million mt of the 120 million mt of rare earth that exists on earth.

The group of 15 (The 15 rare earth element) combine have less than 15000 ton being traded worldwide a year. Take Australia as an example, the Ausralian reserve of Rare earth material can last the world 149 years at the current production rate, and we are talking about 5 MT known reserve (there are estimated another 10 MT lying somewhere in Central Australia near Northern Territories)

Never said they were going to listen, you fault for assuming. Brazil is too far for China to do anything about it but Vietnam is within range of all of China’s missiles. Never said China was going to invade Vietnam either, just bombing the mines and refineries to shut down production if necessary. Not that far fetched since you can blow up pipelines with no repercussions.
