FlightGlobal is reporting that China has built its first civilian high-bypass turbofan engine. The CJ-1000AX prototype will be followed by 24 more CJ-1000AX high-bypass turbofan engines to obtain an airworthiness certification by 2021.

The CJ-1000AX engines are intended to power the Chinese C919 190-passenger civilian jet.

China had previously shown its first military high-bypass WS-20 turbofan engine for the Y-20 large military transport aircraft.

Looking at the timeline below (see article chart), there is a family of planned Chinese CJ-1000 series high-bypass turbofan engines.

The CJ-1000AX started assembly in 2016. The CJ-1000AX prototype was completed by December 2017.

The CJ-1000A C919 Basic is scheduled for the year 2022.

The CJ-1000B C919 Extended Range is planned for 2026.

China's CJ-1000AX high-bypass turbofan engine is extremely important, because China smashed the GE/Pratt & Whitney/Rolls Royce jet engine triopoly.

China will equip every C919 190-passenger jet with Chinese CJ-1000A high-bypass turbofan engines UNLESS the quotation for a comparable engine from GE/Pratt & Whitney/Rolls Royce is close in PRICE.

Chinese CJ-1000A aeroengine technology will place a cap on high-bypass turbofan engine prices.

This is great news for consumers worldwide. The CHINA PRICE is coming to the aviation sector.

Well, Y-20 can serve that purpose actually. The core component are the sensors, if the sensors are good enough, any big plane can be a good platform.

Indeed. Militarize of C919 is definitely on PLAAF plan. Without a domestic engine. It's impossible.
