Brazil announces new oil and gas auction

The Brazilian government will seek to raise as much as 2.5 billion reais ($850 million) with its 13th-round auction of oil and natural gas exploration rights next month, officials said on Thursday.


Brazil’s Mines and Energy Minister Eduardo Braga announced on Thursday a new bidding round will be launched on July 7 in a ceremony in Brasilia.

Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff will be present at the launch, the ministry said. Russian energy giant Gazprom is considering investments in oil and natural gas in Brazil and may bid for exploration rights in the latest round.

A total of 266 exploration blocks will be offered in the 13th bidding round, totaling an area of 125,024 square kilometers.

“Of all the blocks, 182 are located in the onshore basins of Amazonas, Parnaiba, Reconcavo and Potiguar, and 84 in the offshore basins of Sergipe-Alagoas, Jacuipe, Espirito Santo, Campos, Camamu-Almada and Pelotas,” the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) said.

The measure is part of the package for the energy sector, which aims to help the Brazilian economy resume growth.

“We are very hopeful and optimistic,” said Braga.

The country’s first quarter GDP figures were negative and perspectives are not good for the second quarter.

Brazil’s state-run Petrobras and other companies have had success exploring in areas where new concessions will be auctioned.

So jealous that China is spreading it's wings, lifting (after a billion inside China) another billion people out of poverty abroad. Haha neither. Well, born and bread in the Netherlands, from a Turkish mother and Iranian father. I think the way the US is handling itself in the Middle East is making me root against them. But that's not all. Having read and watched what Chinese investments have done in many 'South' countries, has impressed me very much. Even though it's not all for altruistic reasons, the Chinese take and GIVE. Instead of just take. And to see the US try to sabotage it at every single step, disgusting. Now, India is of course a rival of China, not an enemy. The US would want nothing more to have a China-sized country to turn against China, but the Indians aren't stupid.
About joining the fray with China: more trade means more trust and stronger ties. As for Africa and Southern (South Eastern) Asia, having India join benefits those investment hungry nations. A nice friendly competition between India and China would give them better terms.
About the Silk Road: if India joins in, it has just as much interest in stability and peace as China does. You don't want a parallel Silk Road that competes with China's Silk Road. Economic cooperation will usher in the new world economic order faster than competition. Asia's century can't come soon enough. Because from 2000 till now, we've witnessed that Asian 'influence' comes with prosperity and enhaced economic and trade ties, whereas the West has proven for the past 500 years, that their 'influence' comes with death and misery. Hope that ends soon.

On India, China hasn't paid much attention, for it is neither important from a global perspective nor it is practical to work with. If you check reality data and track records on some key performance indicators, you will understand what I am saying (or not saying).

Contemporary Iran and China have been very close in trading relationship even before the western sanctions were imposed (during that time China was already major tech/investment/trading partner of Iran). I remember some Chinese friends of mine speaking about their wonderful experience about the country when they were working on metro projects in Tehran. Now that as the sanction is lifted, trade on oil, gas, merchandise, tech, nuclear reactors, infra and investment will only further increase. Look forward to deepening tie with your father country!

China and Turkey are very close in business relationship as well, even defence. Other than bilateral trade which is over $50 billion per annum, China is one of Turkey's biggest mining investors, the biggest investor in marble and also projects like Mytechnic (aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul center in Istanbul) and High-Speed-Rail connecting Istanbul to Ankara. Again, wish China continue to increase co-operation with your mother country!

If India has skin in the game, they'll be less susceptible to outside pressure influence (US) to be used as a pawn against China, like the smaller Eastern Asian countries are being used. Because if the US can successfully influence all those nations using their irrational fear of China, China will be the one with a pearl necklace around it's neck.

About trade with TR and IR Great. Both countries offer large markets and many opportunities. Be it energy, infrastructure or consumerism. Hope ties enhance between all three countries.

Sure economic growth isn't a zero sum game, all countries/regions will move on at the same time. China will continue to integrate with most other countries (except India) in economy, the momentum is overwhelmingly driven by business pragmatism and to some degree by historical/cultural tie (in the case of East Asia, ASEAN). Yes, the size of China, and a different socio-political system, are intimidating from perspectives of a few neigbours in East/SE Asia, it's a challenge for China to reconcile with them and ultimately gain their trust.

After you have checked the numbers on India I think you know what I mean, its exceptionally low economic/tech/financial base and troubled demographic (quality is far more important than size of populace) make it hardly relevant now in the global geo-economic consideration nor in the forseeable future. On political aspects, even cultural, rather than being pressured Indians are more than willing to be used by the US against China, so it will happen anyway as anticipated.
