BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday welcomed remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the South China Sea disputes and reaffirmed that a solution would be found through consultation.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang made the comments at a regular press briefing in response to Lavrov's remarks made when talking with the Chinese, Japanese and Mongolian media in Moscow on Tuesday.

Lavrov reportedly said all countries involved in the disputes should follow the principles of non-use of force, and continue seeking mutually acceptable political and diplomatic solutions. He also urged external players to stop interfering in the negotiations among those involved.:dance3:

"Anyone who really cares about peace and stability in the South China Sea should support China and countries directly involved to solve the disputes through negotiation and consultation, in accordance with international law, bilateral agreements and the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC)," Lu said.

He noted that it is not constructive for other countries or organizations to exacerbate the tense situation and sow discord.

Dragon, I wonder why you applaude the Russians? They don't support your "the islands and seas are mine since ancient times".

.
It doesn't matter. Your country is just as depend my Chinese friend HAHA, don't kid yourself. Like I said, Russia is just playing a game ....we all know why..

Wrong we're interdependent, we know everyone is playing game but we just like how they're playing the game . For the first time that we hear something differently from those crying out loud freedom of Navigation as excuse to interfere the SCS issue that is not even concern them.

The first time you hear anything different from anyone and it happens to be Russia shouldn't be a surprise or something to be happy about LOL. It should be a wake up call to China and Chinese. of course this affects them indirectly.

Oh yea I am right....you can mix mash, play with the words, and dream but your claim of interdependence is hogwash :-)

We still applauded our Russian friends for speaking the true that non concerned countries should stay out of SCS business and let relevant countries to negotiate among themselves. And we don't need Russia to support China on SCS, we're perfectly capable to fix SCS issues with contested countries peacefully.

It's not a surprise for China because China and Russia stand for benefit to support each other despite that we don't have any alliance treaty. But it's a surprise for India since Russia is demonstrating that it can play China card to balancing their relation with India for cozying with US. It's not a wake up call for China but for India.

LOL is that what you think? My dear Chinese friend you really need to open your eyes. India has seen how Russia has been acting with China all these yrs. We are not blind. It is no surprise to us. We have our concerns but they were never addressed, so we need to think out of the box.

Like I said wordplay is nothing without action. So far action buddy. Remember that.

Interesting :D

That's a perfect citation for a research I have been engaged in currently. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

:partay:

On the issue, I would say, Russia is being kissed up. Take Obama, for example, on the Syrian issue. LOL. China and Russia are equals.

China and Russia at the moment is in active strategic partnership. This could be empirically verified from cooperation in Syria to China's financial backing in Ukraine and Russia's backing and approval in ECS and SCS.

Indian can deny it; but cannot change the reality that is going on on the ground.

South China Sea War: Russia, China Alliance Getting Stronger As US Intensifies Presence In The Philippines

China and Russia collaboration seemed far off especially considering the history, cultural misunderstanding and competition between the two nations. However, that seems to be changing in relation to power shifts and Western agenda. Will Russia be China’s ticket to winning the South China Sea dispute?

Powers are changing and alliances are shifting. What many thought previously as impossible may now be happening as Moscow and Beijing grow closer together. Beijing’s resources have helped Moscow survive the lean years. In turn, Russia has been a ticket to China’s advancements in weaponry and potentially its overall military capabilities. Nonetheless, changes are more considerable in recent years especially in relation to China’s ambition in the South China Sea.

According to National Interest: “Even as the above developments have unfolded with major strategic consequences over the last two decades, a more ambitious program of military collaboration now seems to be in the works. In particular, joint naval drills on an unprecedented and growing scale during 2014 and 2015 imply a new level of seriousness.”

For instance, the naval exercise between the two countries in 2014 focused on “naval combat.” There was the emphasis on the doctrine from the Russian Navy in relation to the “the most effective tactics against US carrier groups.” However, as things would dictate, annual drills between the two nations seemed insufficient that they conducted a larger drill in the Sea of Japan in August last year. The exercise featured twenty-three surface vessels, two submarines, fifteen fixed-wing aircraft, eight helicopters, as well as both airborne forces and marines – the largest naval exercise to date. As China continues to push its ambitions in the South China Sea, many see its relation with Russia as a possible contributor to how powers and tensions will shift eventually.

The United States has constantly named the two nations as threats to security and that won’t seem to change immediately.

The alliance between the two countries could be further seen after China praised Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks about the South China Sea dispute. According to Lavrov, parties involved in the dispute should adhere to principles of non-use of force and continue to look for ways to solve the issue politically and diplomatically.

“Anyone who really cares about peace and stability in the South China Sea should support China and countries directly involved to solve the disputes through negotiation and consultation, in accordance with international law, bilateral agreements and the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC),” Xinhua quoted Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang.

Contrary to US claim that Russia and China are isolated from Ukraine issue or SCS respectively, Both nations manage to offset US geopolitical and military alliance by having and "informal alliance" under the name of "strategic partnership". If a strong bonding of these two formal communists upgrade to the next level, they can certainly deal with US in the entire Euro-Asian continent with the zero sum game.

China woody island will replace the airbase in Vietnam for Russia long range patrol of US sea by supporting refuelling. Russian openly support China stance as they know Vietnam airbase is not so critical for their patrol now :D

I don't think there is yet agreement for China and Russia to use each other's territory to support the military patrol nor refueling (I could be wrong), nevertheless it's good to enhance military cooperation with Russia and mutually support each other geopolitically. As I said it before it's in China and Russia interest to cooperate if both want to catch up US military, with their current military budget they will never able to catch up US by playing solo.

Hanoi says bilateral settlement alone won’t solve East Vietnam Sea disputes

APRIL 15, 2016 BY TUOITRENEWS LEAVE A COMMENT

Vietnam has said that disputes in the East Vietnam Sea cannot be resolved only by bilateral settlement but also require the effort of all relevant parties and the international community.

The statement was announced by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Le Hai Binh during a regular press meeting in Hanoi on Thursday, in response to the viewpoint of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the issues.

Minister Lavrov expressed his opposition to the internationalization of disputes over the East Vietnam Sea at a conference with Japanese, Chinese, and Mongolian media in Moscow on Tuesday.

All countries involved should avoid violence and continue to seek out a peaceful solution to the disputes via political and diplomatic channels, according to the Russian official.

He also asked external nations to stop interfering with negotiations between relevant parties to the conflict.

The viewpoint was supported by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang, as reported by Xinhua on Wednesday.

According to Spokesperson Binh, bilateral settlement can only be successful if the matter is limited to the involvement of two nations.

“Issues that involve all relevant parties, namely the disputes over the Truong Sa [Spratly] archipelago, must be settled by all countries concerned,” the Vietnamese diplomat underscored.

Other subjects that affect the international community, including security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the maritime area, require thorough discussion and agreement from all nations that share the same interests, he asserted.

The spokesperson reiterated that Hanoi will remain consistent in dealing with the matters in the East Vietnam Sea through peaceful measures, in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Vietnam Sea (DOC).

Regarding recent reports by U.S. media that China had sent fighter jet Shenyang J-11 to Phu Lam (Woody) Island, part of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, the diplomat complained that the deployment violated the Southeast Asian country’s sovereignty and endangered regional peace and stability.

Binh once again emphasized Vietnam’s indisputable territorial authority over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

Hanoi vehemently protests Beijing’s acts and demands that the latter cease its violations of Vietnamese sovereignty and evacuate all fighter jets out of the area, according to the spokesperson.

“As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a vital player in the region, China has the responsibility to preserve peace and stability and comply with international law,” he said.
