Every year at the end of March and the first week of April, Japan officially welcomes spring with cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms, or “sakura,” have become one of Japan’s motifs, as well as a large tourist attraction.

Japanese enjoy “hanami” (flower viewing) parties with families, friends and co-workers in parks, congregating under the cherry blossom trees to eat and drink. It is common for companies to assign a junior employee the task of reserving a spot in the park and remaining there all day until party time.

Knowing when cherry blossoms will be at their peak is so important that the Japan Weather Association prepares a map of the cherry blossom forecasts annually. The “Sakura Weather Map” gives a general idea of when cherry blossoms will be in full bloom in each prefecture, as well as offering a more in depth overview of cherry blossom viewing venues.

This year, the cherry blossoms are expected to begin blooming in Tokyo on March 25, and should be in full bloom by April 3. In Osaka, cherry blossoms should begin to bloom on March 26. Cherry blossoms in Kyushu can be expected to begin blooming on March 21, reaching full bloom by March 31. Hokkaido is the last to see cherry blossoms, starting from around April 30 and reaching full bloom on May 4.

Nature is wonderful... and these cherry blossoms have been integrated into the architecture so beautifully. I wish to see these trees sometime in my life time. Finally a thread which is calming, my insomnia has kept me up all night again....
on a side note I am reading a modern history of Japan by Andrew Gordon thank you for that recommendation :)

hehe, i'm enjoying my McDonalds' iced caramel mocha this evening as i attempt to do some necessary work , and these pictures definitely help in calming the mind. Its funny you mentioned the insomnia , bro, i've been trying to correct my circadian rhythm -- as of late i've been staying up as late as 2-3 am -- not good. But what i've noticed to help me sleep is drinking warmed milk (evaporated milk + hot water).

Its important to do as much stress relief as possible, given our tasks and work related stress. I can empathize for you because you are a physician, the task that you hold on your shoulders is both noble and also entails a lot of stress.
It is important for you to separate the work stress from your personal life, my friend. Have you tried doing evening brisk walks? Or just meditating in the dark , or evening prayer tends to be very useful and helpful.

As for the Gordon book, you're very welcome. You'll have to tell me all about your impressions on that book, when you have the chance. :)

decrease your exposure to Led lights and you will sleep easier. I have issues with sleeping and rarely sleep more then 5 hours a day if that. That means less cell phones and laptops an hour before you sleep which will help your brain rest. And now I will have to have something sweet too.

yes sadly I an idiot and work at Trust hospitals which are charity hospitals where there are more patients then one can handle. Sadly my health has taken a toll and I am on a leave till I get my BMI back to 18. I have issues with food :P

Will hopefully be done with it by tomorrow, I just started so it will take me a day because it is an ebook. (could not find a proper book because of the lack of readers here I guess)

That's noble of you, bro. In my opinion, the physicians who work in trust hospitals or veterans' hospitals , or community hospitals that service low income people are true manifestation of the Hippocratic Oath. And to me one of the most noble professions is in the health field : Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy.

My younger brother is studying to be a doctor in Japan, he's actually in his last year of his bachelor's program for Pre-Medicine, right now he is studying for the medical school entrance exams , and he always tells me , "Ani (this word means older brother), i am overwhelmed with the basic science reviews " I always encourage him, especially i know because he has a full schedule right now -- he works at a local hospital as a volunteer, goes to school full time, and now doing his exam preps. Sometimes i have to skype him to remind him to sleep because he has tendency to over do things. But yes, maybe i can have him join here and you can give him a mentor talk about your life as a physician , im sure he would really appreciate that.

:)

One should read a book a day if he is to achieve any knowledge in the short life span we have. Plus I love books they are what keeps me company when the world sleeps
Jinnah Pakistan and Islamic identity the Search for Saladin
Pakistan a Modern History by Ian
please google the names I do not remember the authors properly
The murder of history by K Aziz...
All three provide a very unique view of Pakistan from different mindsets and one should know history from all aspects I think. Also these are near Pakistani Independance for older history i.e. mughal history etc I can give you names also if you interested.
The white tiger is an Indian book but defines the mindset of the people in this area well it is a novel worth reading I would highly recommend it

Sir it would be an honour even though I am a young doctor and you could find much smarter doctors then me to do that but just tag me and I will be available for any inquiries he has on anything, and do remind him to sleep I ruined my habits while studying because I took up acupuncture and Herbal medicine diplomas while I was doing my medical degree and I know that you need to sleep or else your body gets angry and punishes you.

What no book by Ahmed Hasan Dani ? :(

Any reading of the history of Pakistan is incomplete without reading the works of the man who uncovered most of what the world knows about the Indus Valley Civilization.

And nothing written by people like G.Allana or Z.A.Sulehri - the both of them knew Quaid-e-Azam personally and didn't cobble together their information by sifting through books in a library and then writing one themselves plus Z.A.Sulehri's 'My Leader' comes with its foreword written by the Quaid himself who was given that book by the author to read.

And what about reading Iqbal's Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam - thats where we ought to get our State's bearings from.

Why LED lights in particular? The latest thing here is putting in LED lighting to avoid the mercury in compact fluro?

As for Sakura pity down here i have another 6 months to wait :( my beautiful old weeping cherry is about to shead its leaves not share its blossoms.

Excellent ! Thank you , i will see if i can find some of these at my local Barnes and Noble, if not, then I'll do an Amazon search.

Also, i'm sure you know that i am a fond of religious studies. I'm currently reading a book on the History of Middle East , just recently re-read the English version of Holy Q'uran. Do you know a good theological book on the Hadiths, with clear emphasis on Quran ? I really want to know more , i am always amazed at the beauty of the writings in Holy Quran. :)

Thank you in advance, my brother. :)

Z.A.Sulehri's 'My Leader'
that I did not give because I have not read myself to be honest I heard it is not complete as a narrative.. Will add it to my book list for June.

We give him a book or two which are the most complete I do not think he reads as much :P if I give him 7 books he might just take out that sword of his
on a side note I hope ur staying away from salt and bakery goods... I am scary also :P I have a few swords I got from Turkey and Saudi :P

That depends on the amount of time you wish to spend reading. Tafsir ibn Kathir is the best book to read to understand the Quran with relation to Hadiths in my point of view, it is extensive and covers everything.

I am; the Doc told me that its because of my terrible diet and because I am overweight. I had thought that as long none of that weight was fat it'll be alright but the Doc thinks that despite me working out 6 days a week in the gym and sprinting 100 m x 5 around thrice a week.....weighing around 95kg at 5'8 is putting an unnecessary strain on my body and that coupled with the sheer amount of calories needed to sustain that much weight and the junk I obtain those calories from (Tikkas and what not) is whats causing the high BP.

So now I'm going bid adieu to my biceps and the carefully built chest I so loved so that I get my weight down to around 70-75 kg ! :(

God I so loved to bench press 120 kg !

Tafsir ibn Kathir was written centuries upon centuries ago.....we need a new exegesis for the modern times. Though some of the old stuff ain't that bad.....Fakhradan Razi's exegesis was pretty forward looking for someone writing in the 12th century. But thats probably got to do with the fact that he was a polymath instead of your average mullah who doesn't know a thing beyond the parroting that the mullah before him taught him.
