The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the bail petition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

The six-member Appellate bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order after hearing the petition filed against a High Court order that turned down Khaleda's bail plea in the case.

“The petition is dismissed,” the court announced.

The apex court, however, asked Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to provide Khaleda with “biological treatment” as per the medical board’s recommendations.

On December 5, the top court deferred the hearing until December 12 and asked the medical board formed to treat Khaleda to submit a report on her health condition.

The bench, led by the Chief Justice, passed the order after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam sought time to file the report.

On November 28, the bench deferred the hearing on the bail petition until December 5. It also asked the medical board to submit a health report before the court on December 5.

Khaleda moved the apex court on November 14 challenging a High Court Division order that had turned down her bail petition in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

The High Court on September 11 rejected her bail petition. Khaleda’s bail plea had been turned down twice before – on July 31 and September 3.

On August 8, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Charitable Trust case with Tejgaon police against four people, including Khaleda. They were accused of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.

A special court jailed the BNP chief and three others for seven years in the case on October 29 last year. Khaleda later moved the High Court.

The former prime minister has been in jail since February 8 last year after she was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in a separate corruption case.

She is currently being treated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. Her party has been accusing the government of not providing adequate treatment facilities to Khaleda.

Its time BNP move on to new leadership. BNP need to cut all ties with Islamic parties and rebrand it self. We need a leader like kamal ataturk secular but nationalist west leaning leader. Cut ties with India build strong armed forces.

Only khaleda and Tareq Zia free BNP can return the glory of Ziaur Rahman. You may not agree with me, but that's the reality.

Remember, Muslim league is divided yet did very well in Pakistan. BNP was established on the corpse of Muslim league in Bangladesh, so this ideology is very powerful. So if khaleda zia and Tareq gone, still this ideology will not die, but it will be prevailed.

However if still this family remain in leadership, this party BNP will die, but the ideology will never die. The ideology ( of right winger) will be elevated through another party who will hold the Muslims heritage in politics. A true one , not fake like present day BNP.

Classic Awami BAL prescription.

Classic Awami BAL prescription.
This will be that most sensible decision by BNP.

A BNP led by either Khaleda or Tarek will be a disaster for the country. Forget BAL, neither the armed forces nor the common people will let them come to power in that case.

Still you remain very delusional sir. It's not AL prescription. AL want ZIA family in BNP leadership at any cost! Condition has been changed after election and later joining to the Parliament!

Because it is Tareq Zia who ordered you MPs to join parliament. So now if there is no khaleda or Tareq Zia is in leadership of BNP, against whom AL will do abuse? If BNP get new leadership, AL will have no other excuse to create trouble for BNP.

AL actually want khaleda zia BNP leader forever now, but a tamed one, someone who beg for parole and accept political doom. And after rejection of appeal of bail, does she have any other option left to free? Khaleda zia now know very well that her party members can do nothing but giving statement about andolon after Eid or after winter!

However if she don't beg for parole ( but after rejection by SC I doubt that AL.is even interested to grant parole for her even if she requests) , she may stay in jail and serve AL purpose. As AL want Khaleda Zia to be imprisoned. So there is no loss for if Khaleda Zia remain BNP leader, just it will help BNP remain a pet party of AL.

Imprisoned khaleda zia is not a threat for AL but beneficial for both AL and Tareq Zia.

It already is. I dont see any come back any time soon. Realistically speaking. Hasina will not retire before 2028.

So why do you want BNP to be secular? BNP is an islam Pasaand political party. If BNP come back it will be because of Islam, not secularism.

BNP will not be dead as long as Bd has Muslims population.

.
So why do you want BNP to be secular?
Cool cool, no need to be upset. @mmr is truly upset so he said so I believe. Even anti BNP folks like me don't like secularism. But whatever the case, you are not going to believe my words because I don't accept khaleda as peer sahiban, and don't consider Hasina as the cause of all problem! So better I will not try to convince :)

BNP is almost dead & good riddance I say. They have only used Islam for political gains. They're not actually true to Islam.
REMEMBER today's BNP is no longer the BNP of Ziaur Rahman.
Both BNP & BAL are cancer for our nation.
I reiterate, what Bangladesh needs is a new party to emerge, independent from both BNP & BAL, a party that willl emphasize our Islamic heritage & stay true to Islamic faith.Preferably led by someone with balls.
A leader like Imran Khan for example.

Because BNP didnt gain anything from parties like Jamat. Most BNP supporters are secular educated middle class or business people.

No i am jot upset. I am being realistic. If bd want to be next Vietnam or south korea we need to change our mentality and values. Otherwise goodluck becoming next economic powerhouse. Islam is being used all this time for personal gain. Its better religious ppl keep it private to them self and not mix with politics.

Well whatever you say, but the reality is secularism is never ever a solution in Bangladesh. It has no real place here. AL is not secular, it never was. It always been a moderate Muslim party . Unfortunately as a part of propaganda many leftist joined AL intentionally to spoil it. Now they are losing ground.

However it doesn't matter what party we need, but we need Erdogan type leader who truly hold pure Islamic identity that will not be used in political purpose, personal benefit and to deceive people.

A true moderate Islamic party ( who will not try to establish sharia law overnight,)is the only fate for Bangladesh. Secularism will not work here, it will keep dividing the nation.
