CGTN: What is China’s red line with the Taliban?

. .
Fact is, there are many Uyghurs and other Chinese Muslims living in Central Asian countries. Very few of them had abandoned their Chinese citizenship.
Due to the superb education system and resources, also geographical proximity, Xinjiang becomes the most popular destination for the students from central and South Asian states seeking higher education. Even India has tons of students studying in this province.

.

I suggest you Google the number of mosques in Xinjiang and the number of mosques in the United States.
You can also Google the percentage growth of Uighur population and the percentage growth of Chinese population.
The media can lie, but numbers can't lie.

Chinese members are tired of countless explanations of this rumor, so they are very impatient now. I am sorry.

Taliban calls China its 'trustworthy friend'
Afghanistan's new rulers say China is their 'ticket' to modernizing the country

The Taliban and China solidified their ties Thursday, with a top official in the insurgent group calling the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) a "trustworthy friend."

Deputy director of the Taliban’s office in Doha, Qatar Abdul Salam Hanafi said the Taliban will work with its neighboring country to allow China’s continued expansion of the Belt and Road Initiative.

"China has been a trustworthy friend of Afghanistan," Haffani said, according to astatement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. "The Afghan Taliban is willing to continue to promote friendly relations between Afghanistan and China and will never allow any force to use Afghan territory to threaten China’s interests."

In a phone conversation with Chinese assistant foreign minister Wu Jianghao, the Taliban official said the insurgent group would "take effective measures" to protect Chinese institutions and personnel residing in Afghanistan.

Chinese foreign minister Wang Webin dodged questions Friday on whether China will recognize the Taliban as the legitimate governing body in Afghanistan, following the nation’s collapse last month.

Instead, Webin said the Chinese government is "following closely" the evolving situation on the ground while noting that its embassy in Afghanistan plays an "important channel for China-Afghanistan exchanges" and is functioning normally.

The Taliban’s partnership with China allows the PRC access to Afghanistan’s natural resources like copper and aluminum.

Afghanistan is believed to be a mineral-rich nation that some have estimated contains $1 trillion worth of untapped resources.

"The cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) advocated by China is conducive to the development and prosperity of Afghanistan and the region at large," the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement following the call.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid during a Thursday interview echoed support for Chinese investment in Afghanistan.

"China is our most important partner and represents a fundamental and extraordinary opportunity for us, because it is ready to invest [in] and rebuild our country," he said, according to the South China Morning Post.

The Taliban "care a lot about the Belt and Road project," the Taliban spokesman reportedly said. "We own rich copper mines, which, thanks to the Chinese, will be modernized.

"Finally, China represents our ticket to the markets around the world," he added.

The Taliban are expected to formally establish a government in the coming days, though it remains unclear which nations will recognize them.

What if Iran asks Pakistan to be nicer to their shia muslims rather then suicide bombings every few days?
Pakistani state isn't anti-shia--they are very aware of the fault lines and their dangers to the integrity of the nation. Those acts are done by either Baloch nationalists or Deobandi radical orgs like TTP and LeJ. These orgs are actively suppressed.

So is China really going to demand that Taliban stop the opium business?

Chinese law expressly stipulates that smuggling and trafficking more than 50g of heroin, or more than 50g of methamphetamine, or more than 1000g of opium, or more than 15kg of marijuana will be sentenced to death.

Because of the Opium War, the Chinese government and Chinese people had a low tolerance for drug crimes.

We know that drug cultivation is an important economic source for Afghans.
In the short term, China can compensate Afghans for their losses through food aid.
In the long term, China will also invest in Afghanistan and help Afghans get rid of drugs by providing jobs.

Totally understand the timing
ETIM joined Talban in their fight at Panjshir
ETIM was part of the Afghanistan takeover in north .
Talban see them as volunteers but they have ulterior motives.

We all know the penalty for trafficking drugs and terrorism in countries like China, ASEAN, etc

So what is USA and its allies going to do about the drugs trade in Afghanistan.
They were there for the last 20 years. It appeared to me that they did absolutely nothing.

Victor Gao is merely passively reminding the Taliban of their commitment.

The ramification for breaking such promise of not accommodating ETIM (A terrorist group listed by UN) which they made to China FM Wang Ni can bring serious consequences to them.

The Taliban leadership knows how vulnerable they are and is heeding it as China and many nations in SCO are immediately neighbours.

Only problem is: how united are these groups within the Taliban.

That is why both Russia and China are adopting a more cautious approach before they decides.

Afghanistan is an Afghans' affairs and to be fair, the Talibans are Afghans.

Opium trade helps fund the Taliban with weapons. Weaning them of this trade wont be easy.

We all know China's model of working with countries. I think they are going to follow the Myanmar model here. They do business with the military dictatorship there knowing that they are bull-dozing their own citizens.
The only red line for China would be insurgent activity in Xinjiang. So unless China is not affected, they would be fine with everything else.

If you know the history of the golden triangle, you will know how China will treat the drugs around it.

The Taliban have banned poppy cultivation.

Taliban's 20 year insurgency has been funded by opium trade.
Afghanistan produces 90% of world's opium.

Afghanistan's farmers would revolt if Taliban forces them to stop opium production now.

So I said you should know how the golden triangle was destroyed. At the beginning, drug dealers in the golden triangle also used this reason, now all the drug dealers are dead.

It is these drug dealers, not farmers, who are really unwilling to ban drugs. And like their counterparts in the Golden Triangle & Mexico, these drug traffickers should have contact with the CIA. It doesn't matter if they don't want to do it. The drug dealers in the Golden Triangle alsi didn't want to do it, but later they didn't have a chance to do it.
