Central paramilitary forces to be upgraded

New Delhi: The capacity of Central Armed Police Forces will be strengthened and they will be provided with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Monday.

"A modernisation plan at a cost of rupee 11,009 crore has been approved to strengthen the capacity of Central Armed Police Forces," said P. Chidambaram, while presenting the interim budget for the fiscal 2014-15 in the Lok Sabha.

There are six CAPFs in the country under the union home ministry: Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal, and National Security Guard.

He said the funds have been provided in the current financial year and for the next year.

AAAhhhh finally....
do these politicians have any idea how much damage has already been caused???
over 50000 have quit in the past five years and now our government wakes up.
Last heard government is likely to accept 'pay parity' demand of force personnel to help them earn better salaries even if their promotion is stalled for lack of vacancy.
Those guys gets paid peanuts for their service.
A country where a soldier has to fight for his rights is doomed.
Some reality check....
While in the Army an officer gets three promotions in 13 years, it takes 24 years for a paramilitary officer to reach the same post.
Even that is stalled in the face of lack of vacancies and many officers retire as commandants without ever making it to DIG or IG level. Since salary is linked to the post, they keep earning far lower remuneration.
I hope a part of 11009 crore goes into giving them a better remuneration.

Source please??

@levina Any ideas on the entry criteria laid down for Armed Police services as against Paramilitary or Army service? As in, are they much more lax when it comes to physical and mental fitness? Otherwise, I don't understand why someone to choose to join CRPF over IA.
