People's Liberation Army joins ranks of growing number of Chinese organizations in Central Asia, 17 May 2013

Quote from the article:

"However, the Chinese claimed large areas of what is today Tajikistan in the early 1800's and have all but forgotten their assertions. In 2011, Tajikistan ceded 1,000 square kilometers of land to the People's Republic in order to partially pay off debt owed to Beijing. China's original claims of 11,000 square kilometers are much larger than what was ultimately handed over and include the city of Murghab. It should be noted that according to Russian "Pravda", China has land claims against 20 of its neighbors.

Even if China were to never have pushed claims against the country, it would still have quite an interest in Eastern Tajikistan and the city of Murghab, the area is rich in gold deposits and several years ago, landmark oil and gas reserves were discovered in both Tajikistan and Afghanistan which also has had Chinese land claims pressed against it"

Tajikistan ratifies demarcation agreement with China in settlement of long-running dispute (13 January 2011)

China relinquish claims to 28,000 sq km of the disputed land in the Pamirs, accounting for approximately 20 percent of Tajikistan’s overall territory. The new boundary also sees Tajikistan relinquish claims to approximately 1,000 sq km of claimed territory.

It's also solved. Tajikistan got a much better deal.

If you call giving up a piece of territory for eternity for some cheap loans from China is a much better deal, then I say it is not

Here is why China gained insurmountable advantage in this deal

Cinema Rasik: Tajikistan Cedes Land to China - A Step Towards Af-Kash-Bet?

Quote:

"So if you are China with unlimited amounts of money, with an increasingly aggressive military and with far-reaching long-term interests in Afghanistan, would you be satisfied with the tiny Wakhan corridor as your only link to Afghanistan?

We wouldn't. This is why we believe the land ceded by Tajikistan to China is just above the Wakhan corridor and that would enable China to build a wider, more robust military infrastructure connecting Afghanistan with China."

-----

"Remember that China is a strategic ally of Pakistan and Pakistan gets substantial aid from China. But the American involvement in and aid to Pakistan is much much larger. So as long as American troops remain in Afghanistan, China & Pakistan will mind their manners.

But once America leaves Afghanistan, China will become Pakistan's sole patron. Will China then hold "equal consultations" with Pakistan and sign a deal for Pakistan to cede the land below the Wakhan Corridor to China?"

-----

Afghanistan, Kashmir and Tibet or Af-Kash-Bet for short is a very strategic region. You can read the article to find out why.

Article's conclusion:

"When considered in the above perspective, the ceding of land by Tajikistan to China does not seem small or insignificant. On the contrary, it seems like an early move in a long game of geostrategic chess played for huge global stakes."

-----

Nothing got solved my friend. It's only the beginning of new set of turmoils.

Especially, Pakistan and India have to be very conscious about this move by China. PRC wants to take control of Af-Kash-Bet, and they are working on it.

Everything's just a conjecture by some self appointed genius. The reality is China and Tajikistan have disputed territory of 29,000 sq km and settled with Tajikistan getting most of the territory. Both are happy and turn the page to build better relationships.

Since Tajikistan a sovereign nation, this final resolution seems acceptable for China.
Note the president of Tajikistan has a splendid looking to our east asians and he had altered his name form Rakhmonov to Rakhmon.

Anyone assuming "happy" relationship should read the first article again:

Quote:

"Iranian "Press TV" reported in mid April that Tajikistan's National Social Democratic Party stated that Chinese forces had been sighted "deep" inside of Tajikistan. Chinese counter terrorism raids are not new to Tajikistan, but this announcement was made after Chinese troops had been spotted at an unusual and possibly unprecedented 20 km behind the border in the city of Murghab."

That is not a sign of a good relationship

-----

Here is at the end of the article:

"After the land transfer caused protest in the already autonomous Gorno-Badakhshan province where the cession took place"

So the "both are happy" claim is not entirely true either.

Both not happy for both sides lose vast land meaning to both respective size large and small.

Why always forced China to claim more??? May be China should claim Hanoi. China and Tadjikistan solved all boundary dispute in 2002, finished all Boundary marker in 2010, both sides admit the agreement now, China give up 27000 Square kilometers disputed land, while get 1000 Square kilometers, end the dispute with Tadjikistan which last for 130 years.
China only has dispute with India and Nepal on land boundary, if some one want China claim more, please to persuade the Chinese government

I am not familiar with this matter, so I googled it. and here is the recent news between these two countries. Seems the two countries are in a much better relation against somebody's wishful thinking.
