And? They've already rejected Catalonia's intentions of a referendum, deeming it illegal under the Spanish constitution. The Spaniards are an independent nation, and in the end, the EU can do little to force the issue with Spain.

The IRA also wanted Northern Ireland united with the Irish Republic but that all changed after 9/11. Spain's Basque separatists also mysteriously vanished during that same period.

If the Basque separatists couldn't get their independence through armed struggle, Catalans don't stand a chance.

the EU wont allow another civil war over this. If the Catalams vote for independence, they will have it. If not, all or most of Europe could become a civil war zone.
