Car consuming too much fuel :(

That may be true, but that story shows just how big a difference driving style can make in petrol consumption. I also think that the driving in our cities with lots of stop and go and slow speed driving gives poor mileage.

I use separate routes for different times of the day..Saves me lots of time and fuel...
If you go to a fixed place at fixed time, you can always use google maps to plan a route which in your opinion will be less conjested

I need some advice.

How much mileage should a suzuki alto give on petroleum?

A friend's Alto is giving her terrible mileage on petroleum: 75 km per 1000 rupee fuel (that is 10 liters aprrox.)

Mechanic says that there is nothing wrong with the rmp, it is tuned for petroleum, nothing up with the plugs, carborator and no leaks.

So what else could be wrong?

P.s. only serious posters reply

Possible reasons may be:

  1. Your friend is a really heavy foot driver
  2. Your friend drives his car in a stop start traffic almost all the time
  3. Car's clutch is gone and there is a need to pres accelerator a bit more to reach desired speeds thus increasing fuel consumption.
  4. There is something seriously wrong with the quality of Gasoline
  5. Or your friend is a bad driver

Are you calling the driver fat? :D

as suzuki alto have a carboretor engine so u can decrease its fuel consuption by adjusting the nut located below the air filter which can adjust the fuel supply to the engine and also we mostly use our cars on cng for using cng we block the air filter with tape because gas needs less air to burn but on petrol it acts as a choke which increases its fuel consuption so remove a tape or any thing which is used to blok the air flow..this will increase a milage on petrol..

When was the last time you drove in Lahore, Sir? Everywhere is congested all the time.

Isn't Alto something in the range of 650cc - 800 cc?? If that's true, it should do approximately 160km - 180km @Rs1,000.

There is definitely something wrong.

Check:

Does the engine make a heavier noise?
Smokey?
Heating up?

Those engines are typically 800 CC.

Altos consume very little fuel for the record.

.
I have maruti suzuki 800 five gear, it gives >20 km/liter petrol on highways only..

It might be quite lower in city driving where you continuosly accelerate and break and more use of clutch...

so many geniuses on the forum and some of the replies are  :cucko:.....
1)Suzuki Alto is 1000cc carb engine
2) CC of the car will not determine the fuel average it is going to give. other factors play their part here, a 1000cc can consume more fuel than a 1600cc / 2000cc car.
@Topic
elmo madam, you need to check the air filter, see if its choked / plugged. remove any kind of tape, cardboard kind of thing which was used while running CNG.
check the engine oil, you need to check the condition of oil if its too blackened or getting thin.
you need to check if the problem persists only when A/C is on, so drive around with AC off, for a day or two and notice the fuel average.
7.5km/l is too low for a Alto.
is the car engine feels heavy, or under powered when A/C is on? you need to check same with A/c off.
Age of the car can also play a factor here.
oh and as @mastaankhan sir said change the gas station, if she is getting fuel for same place there is chance that quality of the fuel is low, very low octane petrol is sold
waiting for the feedback

Never mess with the fuel or any lubricant consumption of any car, you will regret it; whatever the company delivers is best for the car!

I have a Toyota 4runner 2006 SR 4WD 6 cylinders it drinks 5.5 kmpl and a Toyota corolla 2009 S 4 cylinders runs at 8.3 kmpl.

So is the car fixed now or still heavy on petrol?

Air filter checked.

Engine oil checked.

AC checked.

Petrol stations checked and changed

Still giving 8km/l max.

Old engines should achieve mileage in range of 11~15 KMPL
New engines MFPI with digital control should be able to get 14~18 KMPL

I'm not sure what type of engine you are using. But you definitely go and get engine check you may need to change piston rings/ cylinders or tuning or may have some issues with some of the bearings. Go visit a good mechanic or if possible agency workshop they should be able to fix it.

PS: Please check your driving habbits also!! Proper driving can save up to 15% fuel :P

Assuming that this work makes the engine okay, the next step would be check rolling resistance, for example dragging brakes or bad bearings, or even something as simple as low tire pressures due to slow leaks.

Edit: How is the consumption being calculated? The correct answer is given by filling the tank, noting the odometer reading. Then driving for at least half to 3/4th tanks, then filling up again and noting the odometer reading. Kilometers traveled divided by the amount to refill the tank is the consumption, noting that the tire size has to be the original stock size that came from the factory.

.
Check your tyres as well...whether they are original or second hand.
