Call for Karachi deweaponisation

KARACHI: MQM-Haqiqi chief Afaq Ahmed said on Tuesday that tall claims of mandate would stand exposed if the city was deweaponised.

He was talking to the media at the Sindh High Court where he was brought from jail amid extraordinary security in connection with the hearing of his two bail applications and a constitutional petition.

Mr Ahmed said that he would start his political activities once he was released.

“We will rid the people of murderers,” he added.

He alleged that the leadership of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was involved in the murders of a large number of innocent citizens and party leaders such as Azeem Tariq, Khalid bin Walid, Raziq Khan and Badar Iqbal.

In reply to a question, he said that the Muttahida chief would never return to the country.

He said the UK authorities would not allow him to leave their country following the arrest of two suspects in the Dr Imran Farooq murder case.

He also welcomed former home minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza, who had come to see the MQM-H chief in the SHC.

Dr Mirza told newsmen that he had come to see Mr Ahmed only “to express his solidarity with him”.

The MQM is no angel, especially when they were the ones that really 'weaponized Karachi' in the first place, in the 90s. But deweaponization itself for a city like Karachi is an absolute must!!!

To deweaponize Karachi you have to deweaponize the North West first. These weapons are being brought into Karachi by certain political parties from that area.
But again when you have ex Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza saying he gave 3000 weapon licenses to gangsters in Lyari what more can you expect?

umm... and the Americans didn't provide weapons in Karachi via ship transport. I wonder what your MQM leader Babur Ghauri use to do.

i m living near 9-0 since 15 years, and its the most peaceful area of karachi, no one has been killed since i m here.

Do you know KPT flourished much in his time? KPT even helped govt developing infrastructure of courtry, developed many roads in karachi and other cities, developed two flyovers in karachi, one of them is KPT interchange at Qayyumabad, which is most beautiful flyover of karachi, they even developed a park in lahore, they even constructed Port Grand Food street, and there are $billions of dollars of projects currently on progress @ KPT. Do you see any other ministry with this level of success in last 30years?

so we should ignore the illegal manufacturers in north west ? where its an open market for guns and hard core drugs

DE-weaponization is very necessary for Karachi , with out De-weaponization it will remain mess . Politicians should step forward and try to De-weaponize city if they fail then army should do it forcefully.

OFC its needed if full country , but start from Karachi end to Kashmir .

I agree with that, but Karachi is facing an imminent problem with the rise of arms, & it probably the hardest hit city in Pakistan because of it. I agree with you that Pakistan should be completely deweaponized.

we should de-weaponise pakistan but we must start off with karachi because that is the only city besides balochistan province which has target killings on daily basis! we saw it happen in 2007 and also recently in the month of ramadan! time to seal karachi off and de-weaponize it!

ofcourse 9-0 is most peaceful area chor kaay ghaar paay kaun chori kaar sakta hai! altaf is a terrorist so no one will dare come to the terrorist house! besides please don't forget the ID checks that happen when you enter the street! no one can enter the street just like that many ID checks happen!! it is more secure area then even american embassy!
