Exhibition on China's high speed railway launched in Indonesia

An exhibition on China's high- speed railway was held here on Thursday to promote the country's bullet train technology.

Entitled"China High Speed Railway on Fast Track Exhibition," the week-long event was opened Thursday by Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xie Feng.

According to Xie, China has been successfully operating 17,000 kilometers of high-speed rail, or 55 percent of the world's total.

Nearly 1.7 billion passengers have been transported by high- speed rail around the world last year, of which 0.91 billion have taken China's high-speed trains, he said.

Bullet train wars heat up

China is ready to start construction on the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project in Indonesia in September and complete the project within 2018, if it wins the contract, Xu Shaoshi, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, the nation's top economic planner, said in Jakarta.

"The financial plan we are offering is cost-effective. The railway would be constructed by joint venture management between China and Indonesia, and the two countries will cooperate in personnel training, technical transformation and construction," Xu said during an official visit to Indonesia.

China and Japan have been lobbying hard to win the rail contract. With their substantial expertise in high-speed rail construction, the competition has been intense between the two economies. Japan has promised to begin construction in three years and complete the project in eight years.

Indonesian government officials are believed to be studying both the proposals and are likely to take a formal decision later this month, the Associated Press reported.

. . . . .
I personally give more trust on Japanese technology in HSR development, but the construction time proposal will become a deal-breaker. We will need this train sooner than later.
I don't get it. Japan train crash too, although it was not a new HSR. We have longer rail and our daily passenger surpass that of Japan 10x over, yet we have no accident. But we never get the credit for our HSR safety. Anyway it is your country decision. If we didn't get this deal, we will use the money for other country loan to build their HSR.

I say let the Japanese build the 150km HSR in 8 years。

If they think Japan can do a better building and managing a HSR than we do, so be it. We have other global HSR projects to worry about. But one thing I hate the most is being lure into a trap to bid for a losing effort. Not to mention, not getting appreciate for our effort and technology.

Sure.

Indonesian government sure appreciate China effort to join the bidding process. But win or lose, that's a completely different matter.

This is only a pilot project.

u r a serious man. but business is business, win or lose is happening everyday, even it is ur own business, just move on once it is done no matter what the result is. in my personal view, this bid is not a good deal to make, u have to congradulate to japanese to squeeze chinese bidder to be totally profitless on this project, i don't know if the japanese really wants to do the business or just set up a trap. maybe next time chinese bidder should leave away and let the japanese bidder lives in the trap they set for themselves. i believe thailand hsr bid was already such a case. chiang mai to bangkok hsr was granted to japan bidder with an extremely low price, chinese bidder just fled away. the next case will be the indian hsr i believe.

I dont see any thing good in linking Jakarta with Bandung using high speed train, particularly by seeing the project cost. the money should be used in other infrastructure project. The reason is because Bandung is not a satellite city of Jakarta and it is reachable by just using a bus, only take 2 hours from South Jakarta using toll road to visit Bandung.

To be honest, our goal is to 1st mover market share in HSR. It is not about short term profit. If it is about profit, we would have fled already.
