Isn't the entire line supposed to be open by 2022? It seems very little construction has been done. Can India finish the entire line in one year?

I wouldn't be surprised if its under construction in 2031. Regardless, the "estimated" time frame is 2029.

Why not. The section they want to open is only 100 kms from Surat to somewhere
Chinese did in 18 months for Shanghai to Hangzhou HSR back in 2010. It's 11 years later now. By Indian standard, India is only 10 year behind China so they can do it.

That's news to me. They originally claimed that the ENTIRE line was supposed to be open by 2022. When and why did they reduce their goal to only 100km?

Well they couldn't get all the land and Japanese is not happy about it. Also Modi wants to show at least the project is still on. So they started the construction of the section all the land acquisition is done. It is also used for training purpose. I believe the section is from Surat to Vapi. The other sections will be starting once the land acquisition is done.

I'm curious, but where have you heard that India is only 10 years behind China?
By some Indians. I didn't say this. But I have never been in India. Years ago two Canadians brothers did a motorcycle trip around the China's border highways. Later they did a similar trip in India. During an interview for a UK radio the host asked one of them a question to compare India and China. Colin Pyle said China is 50 years ahead of India easily. The video is 8 year ago. Here is the link. Listen what he said at 41'
