“BSF has given suitable and pin pointed retaliation to unprovoked firing and mortar shelling by Pakistani troops across IB in Jammu,” a BSF spokesman said.

He said at several locations, the enemy's firing positions, ammunition and fuel dump have been destroyed by precision firing of bordermen.

The BSF today also released two videos showing purported destruction of Pakistani troops ammunition and fuel dump across the IB in Jammu.

The BSF officials have claimed of inflicting heavy casualties on the Pakistani troops in the cross-border firing and shelling.

“Many Pakistani soldiers have been killed and many of their positions destroyed in retaliatory firing of BSF men,” they have said.

Since Thursday (January 18) Pakistani troops have breached the border ceasefire along the LoC and IB in Jammu province of the State regularly.

BSF pounds Pak positions across International Border with 9,000 mortar shells

NEW DELHI: The BSF has fired over 9,000 rounds of mortar shells across the International Border (IB) in Jammu in the past four days as part of "pinpointed" retaliatory action against Pakistan's unprovoked firing, destroying firing positions and fuel dumps of the Pakistan Rangers at multiple places, officials said on Monday.
Senior officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) and in the home ministry said the situation along the 190-km IB in the Jammu area was "very tense" as Pakistan had "opened" heavy fire in the entire stretch since Sunday evening.

They said the BSF had fired over 9,000 rounds of mortar shells since January 19, after "Pakistan first breached the peace and hit BSF posts and civilian areas".

The mortar shelling is in addition to an effective retaliation by an assortment of other arms and ammunition, they said.

The BSF said the force was retaliating with "pinpointed" fire which destroyed firing positions, mortar launching pads and ammunition and fuel dumps of the Pakistan Rangers at multiple places.

The force also released two small video clips purportedly showing the destruction of fuel dumps.

They said the "chicken neck" area of the border in Jammu (which was untouched till now), near Makwal and Kanachak border posts of the BSF, is also being pounded by the Pakistani forces.

"A security force jawan and a few civilians have been injured in these areas and we are receiving heavy fire here since yesterday," a senior official said.

Sources said the Indian forces have also witnessed the movement of senior commanders of the Rangers and Pakistan Army in the forward areas across the border.

"These visits, as we understand, are being undertaken by Pak commanders to motivate their troops who are getting some good pounding from the Indian side and it is also understood that many of their personnel have been hit fatally or have been injured," the official added.

The Rangers, they said, have also "refused" to talk to the BSF and come over for a flag meeting till now.

All the BSF border posts in the Jammu area have been put on "high alert" and senior commanders have been asked to be at the front "at least for the next about a week's time", they said.

The force has also stepped up the deployment of its "ambush patrols" along the IB to check infiltration, they said.

"Heavy firing aids infiltration and also security at the borders is already up in the wake of the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations," the official said

BSF Director General K K Sharma toured the forward areas last week and it is expected that he may again visit these locations around January 26.

The BSF has lost two men in these firing incidents since January 19.

In all, 12 people, including five security personnel, have been killed and over 60 others injured in Pakistani firing from across the border in Jammu since Thursday.

Upping the Ante, Pak Continues Firing at Indian Posts with 120 MM Guns, Blames it on 'Non-State Actors'

A BSF IG posted in Jammu said that he hadn't seen the present level of 'tensions' on the border for some time, and added that Pakistanis, for last few days, have been firing "continuously and accurately."

Jammu: A dozen Indians have now lost their lives in heavy cross-border shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in the last four days.

According to sources posted near the border areas, such intense shelling hasn't been seen in border areas in at least the last one-and-a-half years. Police and health services have sounded a red alert in the area and have moved more than 40,000 people living in border villages to safer areas.

All indicators point towards further escalations in cross-border shelling.

A BSF IG posted in Jammu said that he hadn't seen the present level of 'tensions' on the border for some time, and added that Pakistanis, for last few days, have been firing "continuously and accurately."

"The situation is tense no doubt. They have been firing continuously, accurately. But we have retaliated with equal force and accuracy each time," the BSF's IG, Jammu, Ram Avtar said.

Another senior officer, who did not want to be quoted, claimed that Pakistan had been opening fire from their 120 mm guns more often in the last couple of days, suggesting intentions of upping the ante and causing greater damage on the Indian side.

"Shelling across the border has been escalating over last two days. They have been using their 120 mm gun more often now. Although these guns have a range of 7 kms, they have been aiming their guns at our posts most of the time, clearly aiming to kill our soldiers, but we have given it back to them without suffering many casualties," the senior officer said.

It is a wait and watch game, the officer added. "Pakistanis have created three-tier reinforced bunkers, within which they retreat after firing at us. On our side, we have created a series of sand mounds for protection and to maintain vigilance."

He added that shots fired from the Indian side, unless they were to bring in the 150 mm Bofors guns, were largely ineffective on Pakistani bunkers, given their three-layered protection. The same was the case with Indian side.

"But it is when we are laying down communication lines or repairing the existing lines that their snipers, waiting in lurch, fire at our soldiers," said the officer.

So, is Pakistan really upping the ante and if so, to what end?

"We don't know at the moment, they're doing it perhaps to push in terrorists. No high-level flag meetings have been held in some time also, so there is no formal communication happening," said a source.
Is there a way to de-escalate the situation?

"Whenever we talk to them about these firings during flag meetings, we're told that it is the "non-state actors" who are responsible for these firings. So the situation is that "non-state actors" are pounding mortar at us and firing with automatic weapons, and Pakistan officially claims that either it has no knowledge of these attacks or doesn't control these rogue elements. So there really is no cooperation from their side," said the source.

India has claimed to have killed 12 Pakistani personnel, including 2 army regulars. While Pakistan has claimed to have killed half a dozen Indian soldiers and claims India violated ceasefire violations 110 times in last 18 days.

Indian aggression will get befitting response: Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa today warned that any Indian "aggression" or "misadventure" will always get a most befitting response.

He made the remarks during his visit to the Line of Control and Working Boundary in Khuiratta and Ratta Arayan sectors, the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

The army chief met local commanders, who briefed him about the ceasefire violations, specially alleged targeting of the civilian population across the LoC and WB, it said.

"Our commitment to abide by the ceasefire agreement of 2003 should never be misconstrued as response limitation.

Indian aggression or any misadventure shall always get a most befitting response," Gen Bajwa said.

He directed for enhanced protective measures including construction of more community shell protection shelters for civil population.

Later, he visited Combined Military Hospital in Sialkot to meet injured citizens due to recent Indian shelling, the ISPR said in a statement.

Indian wants to bring this to another level since @ss beating of BSF by P.A not bearable and now they are claiming themselves that we are accurately hitting them and they can't since we are sitting in our reinforced bunkers, they clearly wants to bring Bofors....let me tell you bring them and allow us to open more heavy artillery fire at you, for those who don't know we have better and more big guns compared to I.A.

Well good to know.

Thank You! We always aim to kill your soldiers. We do not engage the Civilians.

You mean like you martyred our 4 soldiers when they were out working on communication lines. Stop crying like a _____. Jesa Munh hai wesi hi chapair milli gi.

Indian forces kill civilians, livestock, target ambulances, nobody bats an eye in India, Pakistan responds to Indian ceasefire violations with effective military engagement and strikes, everybody in Bharat loses their minds.

Settle Kashmir by sitting on the table, not by using force and oppression.
