Britons sign petition, urging Netanyahu’s arrest

People in Britain have been signing a petition that calls on the government to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu upon his arrival in the UK next month.

The petition entitled “Benjamin Netanyahu to be arrested for war crimes when he arrives in London” is available at a petitions website set up by the UK government and parliament.

“Benjamin Netanyahu is to hold talks in London this September. Under international law, he should be arrested for war crimes upon arrival in the UK for the massacre of over 2,000 civilians in 2014,” the petition reads.

More than 26,000 people had signed the petition until GMT 1100 on Monday with the number of signatures dramatically on the rise.

The British government is expected to respond to the demand as all petitions that get more than 10,000 signatures should be seen into, according to law.

Rules governing the petition site also stipulate that any petition that receives in excess of 100,000 signatures must be considered by the UK parliament for debate.

The deadline for signing the petition is on February 7, 2016.

Israel launched its latest onslaught against the besieged Gaza Strip in early July 2014. The offensive ended in late August 2014, with a truce that took effect after indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israeli officials in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo.

Amnesty International said on November 5, 2014 that the Israeli military's killing of hundreds of Palestinian civilians during its military aggression against the Gaza Strip amounts to “war crimes”.

"It appears that the attacks directly and deliberately targeted civilians or civilian objects, which would constitute war crimes," the London-based rights group said in a new report on Wednesday, adding that eight cases had been examined, in which Israeli airstrikes targeted homes in Gaza “without warning.”

“Israeli forces have brazenly flouted the laws of war by carrying out a series of attacks on civilian homes, displaying callous indifference to the carnage caused,” said Philip Luther, the director of the Middle East and North Africa Program at Amnesty International.

Over 2,200 Palestinians were killed and some 11,100 others wounded in Israel’s 50-day military aggression last summer.

So they wait until many die before doing something? Interesting "strategy" Instead of cutting funding when they ARE doing shit or FORCEFULLY removing them by introducing American style democracy they wait until thousands die?

Somebody is showing their ignorance today. These people are the minority and in Democratic elections they are left out, aka they have no voice, year after year after year... They didn't wait, they are just hungry and desperate wolves surrounded by sheep everywhere.

So instead of being supportive of a desperate attempt made by people who don't have a voice in politics (elections), to make themselves heard you simply b!tch and moan.

Are we even on the same wavelength?

You are talking about the petition and think these people never made attempts to say anything before this petition.

And your replies fit in how?

Even if it manages to make to the required 100000 signatures and a debate is initiated in the parliament what do you think the outcome would be......let me update you on this it would be ZILCH,ZERO,NOTHING get my point?????

. . .
Does that matter? What matters is SOMEONE is doing the right thing and do you think:

is a nobody?

Interesting!
7 million is still a minority and means nothing in Politics when considering a total population of around 64 million and lots of money. I'm not saying what there doing is right or wrong or whether or not matters, I'm just saying that they have been trying to do something about it for a lot longer than you may think. You really think that they have just been sitting on there butts doing nothing all these years just waiting?

LOL, more like finally somebody decided to listen. These people have been voting against the "Status Quo" for years but that hasn't been working so they finally decided to turn to petitions. This one will probably be the first of many but will likely not be acted on since it's being reviewed by politicians who are voted in by the majority which are most likely Pro-Israel.

Democracy means voice of everyone...It is the law if there is a 10k voice it has to be discussed!

Go American and go protest for Britain tell them they got it wrong while something similar exists in USA too!

Democracy means voice of everyone
LOLOL! That's what they tell everyone but that's not reality, the reality of Democracy is the voice of the Majority rules and the minority simply rebel silently or passively disassociate themselves. That comment right there just shows your ignorance of how Western Governments work.

No there are channels as the one on OP to make minority's voice heard....

That comment right there just shows your ignorance of how Western Governments work.
Surprise Surprise West is not a Sultanate where what you claim is what REALLY happens!

The question is not of what HAPPENS OR the FINAL decision is...

The thing is MINORITIES CAN do something an attempt try to be heard! And that is what they are doing...Your ignorance is remarkable and you projecting it to another isnt playing very well for you!

Yes and No, the voters will decide which issues are important and make their
decision based on the political parties policies on those issues.
It is therefore possible that the policy of the government on a specific issue
does not represent the opinion of the majority.

I doubt that the case of Mr Nethanyahu was high on the agenda during last election.
I do believe that all significant parties support following International Law
giving diplomatic immunity to representatives of another country.

There was a similar case when Augusto Pinochet visited the U.K. For medical
treatment and Spain asked for his extradition. he was no longer head of state
and had no immunity. What he had, was the friendship of Margaret Thatcher
after helping out during the Falklands War, so he got out despite his many crimes.

The proper way is of course that the ICC studies the Gaza War, and all aspects of it.
I think the Palestinians in Gaza would be much better off later when
Hamas/Islamic Jihad leadership is safely behind bars.
Whether Israeli government/soldiers will join them, remains to be seen.
