'British IS fighters want to return home'

London, Sep 5 (IANS) A number of "disillusioned" Britons fighting for the Islamic State (IS) have approached a British university to regret their decision of travelling to Syria and Iraq to join the Sunni militant group, a media report said Friday.

Professor Peter Neumann of King's College London said his department has been in contact with a number of British citizens who want to come back to Britain but fear being jailed, London Evening Standard reported.

He said the government should set up a "deradicalisation programme" for those willing former Islamists, echoing calls by Labour leader Ed Miliband who last month suggested a mandatory programme of deradicalisation for those involved on the fringes of IS.

Neumann, who works at the university's International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence, said that one man, claiming to represent 30 other Britons, has contacted the university in the past fortnight to say there is a feeling of disillusionment, as some who

travelled to fight against President Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria are instead being forced to get involved in fighting among rebel groups.

According to the professor, the IS fighters fear that they would be jailed for many years if they return to Britain and feel they have no other option than to to fight under pressure from the militant group.

Kyaa ho gaya? Saalon ka hawa nika?
Jihadi "Bags of Wind" eh?

UK will be foolish to take this scum back, let them remain in Syria.
Syria was just a 'transit point' to their ultimate destination.............Paradise!!
So let them continue to their pre-booked places in Paradise. They can't let down their assigned "gorillas" there.

well, that got me to looking for a nasty US prison cell photo...

Not that bad, not Europe, but not a hellhole really. I wonder if they can get an actual prisoner to keep it that clean?

No, citizenship cannot and should never be taken away.

These idiots need to be dealt with by a long sentence if they set foot in the UK again.

Citizenship can and should be taken away when people forsake their country for another, especially if that new "country" is a terrorist hell-hole of a "nation" that beheads children.

They can put three in there to make it a hellhole!!

Also I heard that those who go there to fight had their passport taken by the organization(ISIS), for the fear that they may turn back. So how will they return even if they want to?

Prison isnt bad because of the conditions of the rooms and facilities. Rather, its having to deal with other prisoners, especially violent and depraved psychos.

Also crazy wardens, guards and showers.

They are not disillusioned. They are being 'transferred' to a different front.

But Britain(oh sorry, its England now), has the perfect solution - deradicalization camps. After that they will become peaceful doves and sing merry.

Good point, about just adding more people! I found some references that said that 2 in this kind of cell was not unusual. That would be a uncomfortable.

I think most governments will take you back into your own country without a passport, they will just give you a lot of grief about it. Relevant discussion here: What happens at the border if you have no passport to return? (military, retired) - Mexico - City-Data Forum

Other countries will be different, of course, but I would expect Western countries to be similar.
