INDIA is set to spend more on defence than Britain within four years, The Sun can reveal today.

By 2017 our military budget will drop from the fifth to the sixth largest in the world.

Only last year we were the fourth biggest globally.

Defence analysts last night warned the trend means the UK is surrendering its standing on the military stage.

Russia’s defence budget grew bigger than Britain’s this year — pushing the UK out of the top four spenders for the first time.

And we are predicted to drop from fifth in 2017 when we are overtaken by India — a nation we are still giving aid to.

By 2020 Britain is projected to be clinging to sixth place with France and Brazil close behind.

The findings by experts at IHS Jane’s Defence Weekly make a mockery of PM David Cameron boasts about Britain’s defence spending.

Last month he rejected criticism of defence cuts by saying: “We have the fourth largest budget in the world and we have some of the finest armed forces. While I’m Prime Minister that is the way it will always stay.”

But IHS Jane’s analysts insist we are already out of the top four — with the UK’s $58.6billion (£40billion) defence budget for 2013 outstripped by the US, China, Russia and Japan.

Senior analyst Ben Moores said: “The reality is that our armed forces’ ability to prosecute core tasks is being diminished. Our capability does not meet requirements.”

Britain gave £250million in aid to India in 2011 but the money will be phased out by 2015. Last year India spent $44.2bn (£30bn) on defence, which is set to rise to $66.3bn (£44bn) by 2020.

Colonel Richard Kemp, former commander of UK troops in Afghanistan, warned the “never-ending cuts” will render the UK “strategically irrelevant within a matter of years.”

He added: “It is shocking the Government should treat its armed forces in this way.”

India should spend atleast 80 billion 2014 or 150 Billion 2016 . We have 1.2 billion people to save. And when China spend 130 + officially India Must spend more. Defence budgets are Insurance for a Country ! And brits need to stop Aid to India which is looted by NGOs and Politicians anyways,.. Or SHUT THE ****UP. Stop talking abt ur PeaNut Aid 1billion times. India already said it dont need aid. U begging India to accept it. U got some serious problem:cuckoo:

If we dont spend more money for defence we will loss Life

We can spend atleast 5% of our GDP. When Pakistan spects 60% of its GDP !

Dude with our economy the way it is right now. I do not see the tend keeping up. Hope things get better. Predictions often go wrong.

Within reason - Wouldn't a Per Soldier figure be a better measure of whether an increasing budget is a good thing or not as opposed to absolute figures ?

That would not suit the Western scaremongering narrative.

China already spends nearly the lowest as a percentage of GDP within the top military budgets, with the exception of Japan who have a pacifist constitution. Even if they assume that China's defence budget is double the official number (Western analysts believe this)... then we'll still be spending amongst the lowest in terms of GDP percentage.

If we count military expenditure per capita (or per soldier) then we will be spending amongst the lowest in the world. Which doesn't suit them, since China is supposed to be scary. :D
