Breakthrough in Syria: Assad is loosing ground very fast

For those that support the rebels, just what exactly do you expect will come after Assad? Have you learned nothing from Libya? The only way forward for Syria is a secular democratic state in which all Syrians can vote under international observation for a president of their choice. Supporting rebel and terrorist groups will only cause the country to implode. Perhaps that's what you really want...

This is a question that no one has really answered. They all talk about "Assad must go" but has not made any case or argument as to what will replace him. "Moderate" rebels?
Yeah, just like those Libyan rebels, who are tearing Libya apart in rival clashes, were moderate and endorsed Jefersonian democracies. :disagree:
Its like they cant even think beyond "Assad must go".

The sheer naivete is astounding.

Replace Assad with Israel in that statement and all the pseudo-leftists go batshit crazy. But they love supporting Assad, even though he is worse than the Israelis.

This is a false analogy. The two conflicts are nothing alike.

Maybe Iran should better be worrying what kind of backlash there will be when their Hezbollah terrorist loose the battle in Syria and Yemen. Perhaps Saudi's will start insurgencies in Iran?

That such nonsense. That is like saying if your grandfather didn't have a penis he would be your grandmother. If UK didn't invade the middle-east in WW1 we wouldn't even have this mess in Syria, neither would we have Palestinian/Israeli problem, Saudi islam created by the British or all other problems in the middle-east.

You are partly correct. Most of the problems in the middle east were created in Britain and not by mistake or incompetence. Sykes and Picot deliberately divided the remnants of the Ottoman empire so as to breed nationalism and perpetual conflict. Their primary goal was to prevent the creation of a new Arab superpower by employing the usual divide and conquer strategy. And then, into the heart of the Arabs, Balfour drove the stake that calls itself Israel. For Britain, this was killing two birds with one stone, which I won't go into.

But the Arabs are equally as guilty as Britain. They have allowed themselves to be taken advantage of. They have welcomed the corrupt and incompetent dictators that were appointed by western powers; even willing to shed blood for them. And they have accepted the narrative provided by those dictators that they are protecting the Arabs against an evil Iranian state portrayed in almost cartoon fashion. They allowed themselves to be converted to a manufactured Wahhabi ideology (not to be confused with Sunni Islam), promoted by the Al-Saud family, which seeks to religiously legitimise the monarchy and punish dissidents with death or worse.

The Arabs are their own worst enemy. Until they throw out the western puppet dictators and unite the fabricated Arab states into one contiguous secular and democratic nation, the Arabs will continue to be the slaves of western interests. Assad is not the problem. He is no western puppet president regardless of whether you approve of him or not. He will need to eventually step down but now is not the time. The time will be when the conditions are right for Syria to become merged into the single Arab country. This can only happen after the fall of Al Saud, which will begin a chain reaction in the surrounding states.

Stop fighting for the interests of Al Saud. Start fighting for the interests of the Arabs.

Hezbollah in Lebanon is for fight with Israelis. Turk they are too big for your little mouth, even using their name in your comments is heavily insult to them. I hope you go to Syria and fight for FSA or ISIS and Syrian army end you. One less terrorist = better , safer world .

No country on earth has poured more money into financing terrorism than Iran.

For those that support the rebels, just what exactly do you expect will come after Assad? Have you learned nothing from Libya? The only way forward for Syria is a secular democratic state in which all Syrians can vote under international observation for a president of their choice and with a constitution that guarantees the rights of all citizens. It will be an absolute clusterfu**. Various factions fighting over who will rule the country which will eventually result in the country being split among the strongest factions.

Syria used to be one of the most stable ME countries compared to its neighbours. People from other countries used to visit this country as tourists or go as students to study in Prestigious Syrian Universities. But look at this beautiful country now, its a pile of rubble. It will take DECADES for the Syrians to rebuild their country if the fighting comes to a halt which looks ever unlikely. No side is strong enough to put the hammer on the other side, thus the stalemate continues.

This war is SAD, so SAD. It is sad to see Syrians hell bent upon destroying each other. What these rebels and SAA don't realize is that they both are brothers, they both grew up together prior to 2011.

You're right. Israel doesn't torture thousands of Palestinians to death. They only kill them with precision weapons.

The Israeli/Palestinian conflict is one of colonial occupation.

The conflict in Syria is far more complicated. Assad is not occupying another state. Those fighting against the Syrian government are largely foreign terrorists. They have no right to be there and they care not about the future of that country but rather about power, influence and money. The early Arab-spring protesters, who had every right to protest, are sadly long gone. Syria was one of the most stable Arab countries prior to the Arab spring and living conditions were largely favourable in comparison to the surrounding states.

The closest analogy to today's Syria is post-Gaddafi Libya. This will be the end result if the "rebels" get their way. Is that really what you want?

Assad is an oppressor much worse than an occupying state. He has tortured thousands of the very same people he claims to support. And no, the people fighting Assad are not foreigners. The vast majority are Syrians. Look at the situation on the ground and you will see. Yes, you will see a Chechen group here, an Uzbek group there, but nothing that constitutes the vast majority of the 160,000 strong opposition. And foreigners will never gain power in Syria, it will be Syrians ruling Syria. And they're not gone, there are still plenty of protests in opposition held areas. Stable country? Yes. Economically, socially, and intellectually successful? No. Lots of the money went into Assad's pockets, secularism ruined the social fabric of Syria (Assad's secularism), and intellectuals were essentially not allowed to do much other than work for the government.
Favorable living conditions? Not even close.
Yes, what I really want is the rebels to have their way, because their way is the way of the Syrian people. And there is this little thing called the SRCC which basically says that all rebels agree to what will happen in a post-Assad Syria, and they have laid out a plan for it.

When Ukraine mess started i stipulated (on this forum-in thread dedicated to Bosporus straits passage of Russian ships) it has begun as to open a second front for Putin, closer to home, to exhaust Russia's support for Assad.

Could this moment of weakness or being unable to render support as in the past be now?
