Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi announced at the closing session of the Arab League Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh that member states have agreed in principle to form a joint military force to deal with security threats.

He added that a "high-level" team will be created and led by Arab army leaders to look into issues related to forming this force.

He also pledged to continue "working, communicating and coordinating" with Arab states on various common interests in the region.

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil El-Araby opened the session by stressing an "absolute need" to confront all threats to the national security of Arab states.

El-Araby called for unified "military, economic and societal" efforts in the face of these challenges.

"What brings Arab states together is larger than what draws them apart," he added.

He discussed threats and civil war conditions in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Yemen.

El-Araby said that the Arab intervention in Yemen would continue until Houthi rebel aggression stops.

Delegates from Iraq suggested changes to language in an expected final resolution on the Palestinian question.

The summit received a letter from Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The Saudi foreign minister criticised Russian intervention in Syria.

More to follow.

Yemen: Houthi fighters and pro-Houthi police personnel fire tear gas on anti-Houthi protesters on Mar 22, 2015.—Reuters

SHARM SHEIKH: Arab leaders at a summit in Egypt will announce the formation of a unified regional force to counter growing security threats, according to a draft of the final communique, as conflicts rage in countries such as Yemen and Libya.

The summit will also call on Iranian-backed Houthi fighters who have made rapid advances in Yemen to leave that country's capital and hand over their arms to “legitimate” authorities, said the draft, obtained by Reuters.

Working out the mechanism and logistics of the unified force, an idea floated by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, could take months.

Previous similar experiments have failed to produce tangible results in the divided Arab world.

The draft resolution identified the military force as voluntary, meaning no state would be required to take part.

That may give Arab states the flexibility needed for intervention in countries such as Yemen, where Saudi Arabia patched together a 10-nation Arab coalition against Houthi fighters and launched military strikes on Thursday.

On Thursday, I awoke to news that brought peace of mind and filled my heart with pride, feelings I’m certain are shared by my Emirati compatriots and nationals of GCC states, and all dignified Arabs. Finally, we have taken command of our own destiny and control of our own security. For many decades, I’ve been longing for this very moment. Just when Yemen was going the way of Lebanon, Syria and Iraq – all Arab countries under Iranian domination via proxies – the tide is turning in our favour as I write.

It goes without saying that conflict should always be a last option, but there can be no meaningful dialogue with the Islamic Republic of Iran, a nation with ambitions of reinstating the Persian Empire and quashing Arabs under its boot, just as it has stamped upon Sunnis and ethnic/religious minorities in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq as well as the long-suffering Ahwazi Arabs.

Perhaps Iran can succeed in pulling the wool over the eyes of the P5 +1 whose representatives are negotiating over Tehran’s uranium enrichment program, but it cannot con its Gulf neighbours, who’ve fallen foul of Iran’s tricks time and time again.

There should be no stopping until Yemen is cleansed of pro-Iranian traitors and the legitimate government is reinstated in the capital, Sana’a. There should be no concessions made to the Shiite Houthi militias; those Iranian operatives have forfeited the right to call themselves ‘Arab’. They are betrayers deserving of the severest of punishments.

Ultimate betrayal
Fighters who choose to surrender do not merit trials; they should be shipped to their ideological motherland, Iran. Their actions - dissolving parliament, ejecting the democratically-elected president, taking over government buildings and terrorising Yemenis from north to south - constitute the ultimate betrayal.

I’ve observed Iran’s ideological and geopolitical expansion with great sorrow - and have long feared that without strong actions to thwart Iran’s aims, Gulf States risk being targeted next. But now that Saudi Arabia has launched “Operation Decisive Storm” together with its Gulf allies in Yemen’s defence at the request of the internationally-recognised government led by Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, I feel that a positive new page has been turned. This is what we have been hoping-for; this is what our people want.

Militias who make obeisance to the ayatollahs and have made armed incursions into Saudi Arabia cannot be permitted control over Yemen’s airplanes, missiles, tanks and other military equipment. And neither can they be trusted not to hold siege to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait that not only connects the Red sea with the Indian Ocean but is also a link to the Suez Canal.

We don’t require a green light from anyone to defend our land

Kudos to those GCC leaders who were courageous enough to take the right decisions! History will record this brave stance you have taken to defend Yemen’s sovereignty and our region’s security. Today, we have leaders willing to lead rather than follow diktats from big powers. Your names will be engraved on monuments and will remain in the hearts of our children and grandchildren. Bravo! May God help you always to do what is best for our Arab nation!

Defensive military intervention
‘Decisive Storm’ is the perfect name for this defensive military intervention taken by the descendants of some of the greatest Arab leaders beginning with the Prophet Mohamed (PBUH), whose victorious mantel was adopted by the second Muslim Caliph Omar ibn Al-Khattab, commander of the Muslim armies who defeated Khosrau, King of Persia and Heraclius, the Byzantine Emperor.

We are showing Iran and the world that we will no longer bury our heads in the sand while keeping up the pretence that all is well. We are displaying our strength with a massive show of military might thanks also to staunch backing from our allies – Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Morocco and Pakistan, which have all pledged to contribute to this righteous battle. Thank you to all our friends who didn’t hesitate to stand with their Yemeni brothers in their hour of need.

It is my hope that the Arab League Summit to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh on March 28-29 will be just as decisive in its backing of a Joint Arab Force able to tackle any emergency in our part of the world. We can no longer rely on our western allies to do the job for us, especially when their foreign policies are muddled and incoherent. The U.S. is courting Iran in Switzerland and sharing intelligence with the Iranian military supposedly ‘advising’ the Iraqi Army in its campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), even as it supports the Syrian opposition battling Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah defending the criminal Assad regime.

I must admit that I’ve been irritated watching Western and Arab analysts discuss Yemen on various television networks. Invariably, presenters all ask the same question: Was ‘Decisive Storm’ launched with approval from the Obama administration? What kind of question is that?

Treated like underage children
We don’t require a green light from anyone to defend our land, the safety of our peoples or our collective dignity. As a nation of 367 million, acknowledged as the birthplace of civilisation, we resent being treated like underage children. We neither need nor should seek permission from anyone.

It is my fervent hope that once Yemen is delivered from the Houthi epidemic, this Saudi-led coalition made-up of ten likeminded countries will be preserved and will turn its attention of freeing Iraq from Persian occupation. Iraq must be ruled by loyal Arabs, whether Sunni or Shiite, not those on bended knee to a foreign state working against Arab interests.

And, God willing, the day will come when our beloved Lebanon and Syria will no more be enslaved to Iran’s bullying proxies, provided our leaders keep up this historic patriotic impetus. If we don’t free our Arab territories from the silent diseases tearing them apart, the peoples of the Gulf and those of our allies will remain in constant danger.

Lastly, I must congratulate our GCC leaders. You have made us proud. Your firm action permits us to hold our heads high; I pray that you will continue to defend our nation, our independence and our dignity. And to our armed forces, especially our pilots that risk their lives during every mission, I wish you every success. Keep safe and may God strengthen you in your task of protecting our Arab soil, our Yemeni brothers and sisters and our honor.

Spot on article. Beautiful.

Will they try for Palestinian liberation in future?

Not forseeable considering that Israel is a nuclear power and has the support of the entire Western world. Only diplomacy can solve that conflict. If the Arab world all ganged up on Israel they would stand no chance but they would nuke us before that happened and take us with them and Palestine.

You wish no one will dare untill big poppa pump Uncle USteiner is here

Look who is talking, lol. What are the US doing in your country once again? Why don't Pakistan attack Israel then? You are the sole Muslim nuclear power and many see yourself as the defenders of Muslims. Don't make silly troll posts please. What are you talking about? The only trolling I see is from your compatriot that is writing nonsense as you are in this very post of yours. What is his problem and your problem if we Arabs make an joint Arab military force? Who are you to meddle? Do Arabs tell you what Pakistan should do among their people? I have not seen such a thing anywhere.

Brother a bit of seriousness please. We are not small school-children.

So if even USA has a tremendous say in what is going on in Pakistan and drones your people killing dozens of civilians in the process then don't think for 1 single second that they would not defend their sole child in the ME if anyone ganged up on them. Let alone Israel not using the nuclear weapon if their existence was threatened.

Anyway what the hell has this encouraging news for us Arabs to do with Israel again?

By your statements i can clearly say you are not even comparable to child logic.

My reply was for SrNair and thats true no one especially Arab world can't do jack about Israel and history has proven it. Even combined attack from arabs didn't make a dent now they have more territory . You guys should be going against Daesh first but you are going against small militia houtis. Now imagine just to defeat you have to collect all arabs then what it take from you to go against Daesh.....

So where were you guys when Yemen was bombed using drones ......

And wrong no arab country want Palestine to be free and even if you had you have no power to do so ..... thats a pure bulshit you are trying to throw on others ......

Nothing prevents anyone from attacking Israel. It just that if that happens and their existence is threatened they are likely to use nukes and not only that they would have the utmost support of the foremost military power in the world, the US. What I objected against was your tone. One could say the same about Pakistan.

So that's why I say attack Israel yourself. You have nukes. We don't. You have 200 million people and an experienced army. No Arab country has such a population or such military experience due to being at war for 68 straight years (almost).

Have you been sleeping in a mountain somewhere in Hijaz? The coalition against ISIS consist of dozens of Arab countries. Yet KSA is looking for its own interests and the Houthi's are a bigger threat. Simple as that. ISIS will be dealt with later as they are a regional problem.

This joint Arab military force is supposed to act against groups such as ISIS too. Anyway the intervention in Yemen is also aimed at fighting AQAP. It is openly stated but I guess that you do not follow news about that conflict either.

You have a good typing speed i give you that ..... Stop saying this "Nothing Prevents" the fact is that you are being prevented by urself and Uncle Sam. Israel will not use nukes they know what will happen if they will use nukes ....

If this is your coalition then im truly sorry to say that it sucks big time. ISIS cannot be dealt by this coalition. and ISIS have full support of Western countries . Your comparison of houthis with ISIS tell how much you guys are wrong. ISIS spans countries and houthi are in small area

Hatred related to religion is one of the worst of its kind. What's the point of achieving hedgemoney when GCC allies are ruling the skies unopposed and Hauties on the ground are on the mercy of missiles and bombs? If hautis are defeated and Iran couldn't do anything then it would send a bad signal to all her regional proxies that they are dispensable. Iran controlling Bhagdad,Syria and Beirut could have been an "Agreed upon" position but Iran has irked a strong response from GCC and now this will not stop here if GCCs are able to defeat hautis.

Of course in theory nothing prevents any Muslim country from attacking Israel but the consequences will be dire due to the reasons I stated. We are saying the same just different words.

You have demonstrated in this thread that you are not following the news or operations. ISIS is being dealt by a coalition that consist of several Arab countries. So far no country (not even the US) have send any ground troops outside of a few advisers to defend military bases in Iraq.

"ISIS have full support of the Western countries"? Please explain that claim.

The terror cult the Houthis are the biggest danger to KSA currently as they are next to our borders. They have openly been threatening KSA and are trying to conquer all of Yemen and turn it into another Southern Lebanon for the terror Mullah's in Iran. We won't tolerate that.

Once again the coalition in Yemen is also aimed at fighting AQAP. We support the legitimate Yemeni government - the same Yemeni government that has been fighting against AQAP for years.
