Turkey ranks EU’s fifth largest trade partner, exports increase 13 percent

Turkey was ranked as the fifth largest trade partner of the European Union in 2015, with both its exports and imports to and from the 28-nation bloc, showing a strong increase.

According to data released by the Eurostat, Turkey's imports from the EU stood at 79 billion euros ($88 billion) in 2015 with a six percent increase. Exports to the EU increased by 13 percent and reached 61.6 billion euros.

I remember in the early 2000's Turkey wanted to be in EU but membership was refused. Turkey done better outside the EU so now EU wants Turkey to be a member! I say its a trap don't join the EU or Join it like the UK has joined not being a 100% committed partner to it and bending the rules to suit it self.

Don't worry bud. We will never join EU, neither the EU will allow this nor Turks or our politicians. Most of it is just a show for the public, the process, filling the criterias, trade agreements etc. It is win/win for us, having a "priviledged" membership, where we are not dependant on EU but enjoy most of its perks.
A country as big and influential as Turkey won't be able to integrate into EU, our mindset, culture, religion, nationalism etc. are very different.

But you got one thing right, and im glad you realize this. Turkey's economic miracle entails the economic rise of all Eastern European states, since much of our investments go there plus a strong and stable Turkey that can deliver and strenghten the region, shortly it is in the interest of all our neighbours.

Why would we send terrorists to EU? What interest would that serve us, EU is our biggest market? We feed and shelter 3 million Syrians as we speak, you should be more than grateful we look after them, if they were to go on to Europe, EU would be near collapse, because this many refugees is beyond the capability of EU nations at the moment

That's an easy task, Russia's trade consist solely of energy and Switzerland mostly of finances. Our trade is highly diversified in every field, from automobiles to vegetables to electronics. Im confident within a decade we will become number three trading partner.

This sentence remind of the economist article last year that was going on and on how Erdogan's election will destroy turkish economy...investors will flee..blah blah..and "experts" predicted 2.7 something growth for turkey in 2015...

Its 2016---Turkish economy grew 4% in 2015 and outlook for 2016 is even better.

It does not depend on Turkey,it will only grow bigger if Turkey excels,which I agree it's preferable....to an extent,and by that I mean Turkish foreign policy which is quite disastrous right now.
