I haven't watched latest Bollywood films in a loooooong time. But from what I remember of '80 and '90s movies, most of India's rape culture can be traced to Bollywood movies of these two decades. Especially some of the B-grade ones. Many of these movies used to be entertaining and watchable but there was so much open sexism on display.

Bollywood actors like Amrish Puri, Shakti Kapoor or Gulshan Grover (even Raj Babbar, Amitabh Bachan, and Rajesh Khanna) have depicted the rape culture on a big screen. Such movies have corrupted a lot of minds.

Of course, after the advent of Internet p*rn, things may have gone out of control.

yes you are correct. Women were very often depicted as objects of desire, the "hero" would chase and pester the female lead until she accepted his desires. The "villian" would often capture the female lead and force himself upon her. This normalised the idea that consent doesn't matter - no means, ask again!

That's incredible India :)
That's their national sports.
I often read Indian news where 9 and 12 year old boys are committing rapes. It's deeply ingrained in their culture.
Shining India my foot.

A common problem in India is boys hanging out in large groups, or on motorcycles near a tea stall/cigarette shop. As soon as they see a bunch of young females walking together, they start their wolf whistles and chasing the girls for fun. It used to be the case in my days that the girls would wear a fake "sindoor" or mangalsutra, and cover themselves properly to escape the attention.

Nowadays from what I know, even married women and mothers with their children aren't safe anymore. They don't just stop at wolf whistles, but even grab their bodies. The Indian society has definitely degraded so much further. When your role model is a third class, 12th fail Prime Minister (his party is full of rapists and criminals), you will end up a third class person yourself.

Exactly elected leaders are a true depiction of those who voted for them.
The most worrisome thing is that in Indian society the role of mother, sister ,wife etc is non existent in younger generation ,they merely see them as sexual objects.

In Netherlands, they decriminalized drugs.
In the USA, it's the assault weapons.
In BJP's India, it's the sexual assaults on women.
