LG is no longer the world’s largest LCD panel supplier having been beat by BOE.

BOE has had a cracking 2018 having already been the top panel supplier for smartphone, tablet and notebook applications. Now it says that it has numbers from Sigmaintell Consulting, which show it beat LG Display to become the world's largest supplier of LCD TV and monitor panels recently.

Apparently, in 2018, BOE shipped 54.3 million TV panels to capture the crown compared to 48.6 million units shipped by second-ranked LG Display.

More data compiled by All View Consulting (AVC) showed that global shipments of monitor panels increased 10 per cent to 151 million units in 2018; of the total shipments, BOE contributed the highest volume with 37.3 million units, followed by LG Display with 34.5 million units.

BOE said that its monitor panel shipments increased 24 per cent on year in terms of unit shipments and 45 per cent in terms of area shipments in 2018.

This year might not be so good as competition in the monitor panel sector is expected to heat up in 2019 due to capacity ramp-ups and aggressive pricing strategies from CEC-Panda LCD Technology and China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT).

CEC-Panda will cater to the 21.5-, 23.8- and 32.5-inch segments, while CSOT will focus on 21.5-, 23.6- and 31.5-inch sectors, the sources added.

CEC-Panda is jacking up its high-end, large-size display segment deployments to compete directly with AU Optronics (AUO) and LG Display. CSOT is moving to increase its presence in the curved and gaming panel sectors in 2019.

Sigmaintell's data showed that global shipments of notebook panels edged up 4.5 per cent on year to 185 million units in 2018, with BOE, AUO, Innolux and LG Display serving as the top-four vendors in sequence, and their shipments accounting for 90 per cent worldwide shipments in the year.

Good. Chinese companies will dominate almost all industry available out there in the very near future. The muricans and their fake news and desperate cheerleaders wont be able to stop China's rise.

Samsung & LG’s Withdrawal from LCD market will bring opportunities for Chinese companies
Apr 20, 2020

South Korea display giants LG and Samsung recently announced plans to halt production of LCD panels by the end of the year. The companies are poised to focus on OLED panels production from next year. This development is viewed as a good one in China as it is expected to open up more opportunities for domestic companies.

In a recent CCTV financial dialogue program, TCL founder and chairman Li Dongsheng aligned with this point of view. He stated that from a strategic perspective, Samsung and LG’s withdrawal from the LCD industry will bring opportunities to Chinese companies. He believes the reason for the withdrawal has to do with an adjustment to the global industry structure. In clear terms, the industry is moving away from LCD and rapidly toward the use of OLED panels. Both South Korea giants will focus more on flexible display products such as QLED and OLED technology.

Chinese companies have already established a dominant position in LCD manufacture, especially in large-screen displays. Chinese manufacturers, including BOE, Huaxing Optoelectronics (a subsidiary of TCL Holdings) and so on dominate the LCD market. Li expects this advantage to be further expanded with future development.

Despite their dominance in the large-display LCD industry, the Chinese firms are expected to face greater competitive pressure and challenges in small and medium screens. In the small and medium-sized field, including OLED and the next generation of new display technology, there will be stiff competition.

Samsung was once a leading force in the LCD panel market. The company established two LCD panel factories in China and two LCD production lines in South Korea. However, stiff competition in the LCD market in recent years and a drop in LCD panel prices may have prompted the tech giant’s decision to abandon the LCD panel market.

Isn't OLED the future now compared to LCD? Why is BOE concentrating on LCD instead of OLED?
