Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is Louisiana’s first nonwhite governor since Reconstruction but whose popularity plummeted as the state struggled with a $1.6 billion shortfall, announced Wednesday that he is running for president in 2016.

Mr. Jindal, 44, an Indian-American, joins the crowded field of Republican contenders in what even his supporters call a long-shot candidacy.

Standing before a giant American flag at an event center in this New Orleans suburb, Mr. Jindal presented himself as a policy writer whose résumé — as a two-term governor and a former congressman who once led the state health agency and the University of Louisiana system — sets him apart. He said that Louisiana cut the number of “government bureaucrats” by more than 30,000 positions, and that the state now had the highest population in its history, with more people moving to Louisiana than leaving it.

Good for Indians. Even if Bob never win, but as long as he is able to get nominated, it will signify a milestone for Indians' achievement in USA.

.
He doesn't have much of a chance, but all the power to him. Look forward to seeing him go toe to toe with some of the other candidates.

He is trying to distance himself from Indian American community, which I think is a mistake. He looks Indian American, so has to pass the muster of his "Americaness".

.
His wife is Indian too. Americans won't vote for such foreign people. They still can't stand a brotha in the white house.

right... which is why President Obama was voted into office. Not once.. but twice. he got very lucky I guess.

As for "voting for such foreign people" The fact that he's even running speaks volumes. He doesn't have much of a shot because he has virtually no name recognition outside of Louisiana. That and the fact that the GOP clown car is getting practically bigger by the week.

.
How many Republicans are actually planning to run..? must be more than 10 already..

He is a right wing nutter, right of most in the Republican party. Academically smart but has too many political mistakes to even be a contender. His approval ratings as Governor are in the pits. If an Indian American is of interest, it will likely be Nikki Haley, the Governor of South Carolina who though not running herself, is among the favourite picks for Vice-President candidate.

They will say "Nikki who". Both are from small states and their name recognition does not go beyond the state.

Yes & no. True she is from a state state that will vote Republican anyways but with the expected democratic challenger being Hillary the theory is that a "white" Republican could be very well served by having a woman on the ticket and a woman of "colour" would not be a bad choice. Also Haley has got quite a bit of national exposure on the issue of the confederate flag removal after the Charleston Church killings.

Anyways that is just the theory being floated now.

Yes when he becomes President he will apparently only look out for India is what indians are thinking

He wont win. But it is a huge thing an Indian/Asian got this far.

The guy has angered a lot of his constituency in Louisiana, from what I read.

Personally not a fan of this guy at all.
