Before I start this topic, just want to explain that this only confirms the claim many in Pakistan have made about paid twitter troll factories operating in India spreading misinformation, hate-speech and fake-news. We witnessed some of these operate during the tensions 2019 tensions, the Afghanistan Evacuation in 2021 and most recently with the case of the Tablighi Jamaat in India.

It should come as no surprise that social media has been weaponised by India to develop a capable platform combining human terrain and leveraging offensive capabilities of utilising unconventional actors for conducting information manoeuvres. As hostile states utilise cyber-space in the "grey-zone" of warfare, Pakistan but not remain complacent to emerging threats and trends from multiple hostile state and non-state actors.

I discussed this in my previous thread which is available here: The looming crisis on the western front. | Pakistan Defence

Countless analysts, opinionators and journalists have called out Indian paid trolls and misinformation agents leveraging social media as an offensive platform in unconventional information warfare. We were ridiculed by many, especially on the Indian side of the debate, turns out we were right all along.

A detailed exclusive by the Wire.In shows just how deep the rabbit hole goes and how hate and fear fuels distrust and both cross-community and regional security relations.

Excerpt:
"
The Wire investigates claims behind the use of ‘Tek Fog’, a highly sophisticated app used by online operatives to hijack major social media and encrypted messaging platforms and amplify right-wing propaganda to a domestic audience.
Ayushman Kaul and Devesh Kumar / 06 January 2022"

Give Pakistanis two bit tit bits, and this thread will be overloaded, give them something substantive to think about then you better pray someone turns up.

Until we develop the habit of thinking properly, and finding new ideas attractive, this situation will never change.
Kudos to you for making an effort, but I wonder what it will take to awaken our people.

Not just BJP. Intel agencies are actively targeting Pakistanis by creating "transactional fog" in order to sow discord internally. Any "transactional fog", and critical people and resources are on ice till clearance. And that clearance can take a while, and returns a bit bruised. DG Tech needs to get up with the program and understand the sophistication, scope and discipline of such efforts, where PK resources are targeted. CI work needs to get smarter!

Would be great if you can edit and post the whole article. It is however just the tip of the iceberg... kind of cliché but it is what it is.

It requires a methodical study, pattern search and identifying markers...

The closet is full of skeletons!!!

I touched on this lightly on the thread about the app made by the Hindu man.

But India is way ahead of Pakistan regarding information warfare, they've practically just picked up Israeli tactics in this field and have trolls planted everywhere.

You can find so many fake accounts using stock images and Pinterest images, and then claiming themselves to be "happy and proud" Indian Kashmiris, etc.

Even regarding conflicts, they could get beaten black and blue but their propaganda machines run full force to make it seem like they achieved something to keep their population's morale up. Their biased news articles with misinformation are sometimes even SEO optimised and come up front page on Google.

And this is the problem our "external security" policy still is heavily focused in the physical sphere of "boots on the ground" and not "bottoms on seats".

I'm confused though, because I'm sure Pakistan is aware of it, they see it happening all around and have experienced it first hand. And China is also well-versed in the information warfare sphere so I'm sure they've touched on it together.

They even opened up a cyber security academy and also the AI and computing research centre. So maybe they will touch on it within that space. The facilities actually look quite decent on Google images.
