A new political party named 'Bangladesh Janata Party' or BJP was launched on Wednesday.

Some minority groups such as Hindu-Buddha-Christan Adivasi party and about 50 like-minded organisations launched the party at a press conference in Dhaka.

The leaders of BJP also announced that they would field candidates in 300 constituencies in the next general elections.

The party, however, is not registered with the election commission.

BJP will take various steps including creating new ministry for the minorities, each division to be elevated to a province and three day public holidays for Durga Puja if the party goes to power in the next elections.

The political party named BJP or Bharatiya Janata Party is now ruling India under prime minister Narendra Modi.

In Bangladesh, Hindu-Buddha-Christian Adivasi party was launched in 2014. The like-minded forces include Muktir Ahban, Bangladesh Sacheton Sanga, Jago Hindu Parishad, Ananda Asram and Bangladesh Buddhist Federation.

President of Hindu-Buddha-Christian Adivasi Mithun Chowdhury was made president and spokesman of BJP.

Asked whether it is a religious organisation, Mithun Chowdhury said it is a pro-liberation party.
