KARACHI: Bomb disposal squad (BDS) personnel are attempting to defuse a remote-controlled bomb planted near an imambargah in Orangi Town, Express News reported on Thursday.
The bomb was planted in a block and was placed near Ali Imambargah. People who saw the suspicious block informed police who then identified it as a bomb and the BDS were called to the scene.
According to BDS sources, the bomb contains 5kg to 8kg of explosives and has a cellphone placed inside it which was going to be used to detonate it.
The imambargah, where people had just started arriving, was evacuated and so was the surrounding area.
Just today, BDS in Peshawar also defused two bombs planted on the main GT Road, an area that has seen many attack on law enforcement agencies.
Karachi witnessed twin blasts at Jamia Masjid-o-Imambargah Haider-o-Karrar in the Orangi Town neighbourhood yesterday.
The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) also claimed responsibility for twin bomb attacks targeting Shias in Karachi and Rawalpindi, which killed 25 people.
