After Sri Lanka, Bangladesh now wants to export rice to neighbouring India from its bulging stock. “We’re going to export rice to India, too. We’ve some surplus rice and more new rice stock is being added to,” Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali told reporters at the Foreign Ministry Monday. He, however, did not mention the quantity of rice to be exported to India. “The rice will be exported to Tripura as they need rice right now… discussions are on about it.” The Foreign Minister said exporting rice to Sri Lanka is a big success. “The first consignment of 25000 MT was exported on Sunday.”

State-run Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC)’s cargo ship ‘Banglar Kakoli’ carried the rice from the Chittagong Port to Colombo, according to a news agency.

. . .
After the Cyclone Sidr, the rice production in Bangladesh had a major slump, significantly affecting our food security. When we turned to India to import rice, the Indian government imposed an indefinite ban on rice export.

Anyway, if there is a surplus of rice, there's no harm to export them to the needy ones, we should keep our Bangladeshi values intact!

we have banned export of rice and onion many times earlier too, because of shortage (and it becomes political quickly if price increases). I know banning is a wrong step (reduces confidence as supplier in international market), the ban is not specifically for bd.
