Vietnam's capital Hanoi is located on the banks of the Red River and is made up of Chinese, French and Russian influences

Formula 1 will have a new race in Vietnam from 2020.

The sport has been in talks about an event in the capital in Hanoi for some time - and that is no secret. But BBC Sport has learned that a deal has now been done and is due to be announced in the near future.

It will be on a street circuit outside the centre of the historic city, and it marks the first new entry to the calendar since the US group Liberty Media took over the sport at the beginning of last year. Since then, new race contracts have been announced, but only for races that pre-dated Liberty's arrival.

The Vietnamese Grand Prix will be the first in south-east Asia.

very nice achievement .

Street circuit GPs are always a delight to watch, Azerbaijan is always the most interesting race of the season....

How does that matter? China holds GP in Shanghai and yet doesnt have it own team and racers. Netherlands has its racer and yet doesnt hold GP...

No hes not in F1, hes not in the current roster neither is in roster for next year season, been watching F1 for 4 years now and this is the first time i have heard his name. He may be in f3.

Lol hes from FIA's WTCC not Formula 1 and currently is in Formula E and has scored 0 points for his team this season.
Shows ur knowledge of sports.

Vietnam plans building f1 circuit near the existing sport stadium My Dinh but personally I prefer also street race. More exciting.

Im not sure if there are big enough business houses to maintain the circuit, its a costly asset. Even when there are no races, it requires millions to be maintained.

Jaypee group made Budh Interantional circuit, races were held for 3 years and after that Jaypee got entangled in many law suits regarding residential construction activities, they arent what they used to be but still have to manage the circuit and FIA doesnt hold races here anymore cause motorsport isnt very charming here so they dont make a lot of money. So BIC is basically a drain on Jaypee already diluting resources.

Street circuits are the way to go for smaller countries.

Vietnam has a population of 100 million plus zig millions in overseas. Its not like Malaysia or Singapore with few millions people. Sport like football, betting included is very popular in Vietnam, that is further pushed by recent successes of national team. I am pretty sure F1 will be a success. VN also needs something special to draw more tourists. 30 million tourists like Thailand is achieveable.

It's a waste of money to hold such game.

By smaller i wasnt talking about population, i was pointing to economy. OFC experts will make the decision regarding the circuit or road track.
I personally think road track is the way to go.

It's a waste of money to hold such game.
And yet china holds one in shanghai...:/
