Battle for the Arctic

Err,,

Its the arctic that is being discussed here which is half way across the globe from the equtorial region.

Sir i was answering to him.he said

Solar + Wind + Tidal energy is the answer , we just don't know how to exploit it properly

by using the word "we" he meant either Pakistan or the region, as I presume Azad Pakistan doesn't lives in arctic region.

Its important to note that the solar and wind are not an option in arctic region the sentence indeed was referring to our region.

Any attempt by any country to explore Artic should be discouraged...

Poor Countries will pay the price of this greed.

Exploring Arctic for oil is no crime. even we do exploration works here and in other countries. But efforts have to taken to make sure it wont create an environmental disaster.

India and China having a huge population compared to the U.S. (250 million), while maintaining a high rate of industrial growth and income, are capable of repeatedly surpass the U.S. in terms of oil consumption.

If you give a car to each Chinese and Indians, then the world will reach the oil shock. Due to successful social policy an increasing number of people in these countries get the opportunity to buy a car.

This summer, from Norway to China by the Northern Sea Route will pass first batch of iron ore. If the delivery will successful, this route will be the main for countries of northern Europe, supplying goods to the countries of South-East Asia.

The Russian claims to the Arctic are preposterous in America's point of view. The Arctic is basically a giant ice shelf which is already severely compromised due to Global Warming causing a already noticeable rise in sea levels. Not to mention that the Arctic still remains one of the world most endangered natural ecosytems where many species are on the verge of extinction.

The Russians basically want to set up oil rigs and pollute the entire area selfishly destroying one of the world largest ice shelf causing a rapid increase in world wide sea levels and destroying an endangered natural ecosystem for profit! This is morally disgusting to civilized people, especially considering that Russia has no lack of oil resources in Siberia instead of damaging the whole world for a profit.

Another point is the Russian claim itself, which America does not accept. How can the Russians claim the right to drill there in the first place ? Proximity to the Arctic doesn't give Russia the right over anything just as Australia or Chile can't annex Antarctica just because they are close to it! If that were the case, the Moon should belong to USA as America is the first and only nation to send its men there. Will Russia accept USA annexing the moon ?

Exploration of natural resources of the Arctic can happen if there is an international consensus decided by the UN on how to divide the Arctic and what mineral rights Arctic circle countries have and what rights other countries have. It is no-man's land and that implies that no country can claim any rights over the Arctic unilaterally.

You would not have lectured so much if America would have done the same. Whatever it does is correct and whatever other countries do is not correct????
Russia is claiming Artic because their mainland is connected to Artic therefore according to International law it can be their territory. That is why Putin ordered it navy to host a titanium flag few miles deep into the sea. This is not same with America. I understand Canada can also claim the same as Russia but it needs to provide proof to the world.

I agree with you, but this won't happen. It is not in India's capacity to stop any of the countries. Just being realistic.

But in that case neither do Denmark, Norway, Canada or United States have any right equally to explore Arctic for any mineral-extraction related purposes isn't it?

It has not just been Russians but also entire northern Europe Canada and United States claiming for the territory. I am against the whole concept of exploring the Arctic in first place with regards to mineral exploitation.

The world has enough problems right now without 500 feet monster waves lashing on coasts of almost every coastal country on this planet.

Russia began construction of 10 bases along the coast of the Arctic Ocean to support the ships that sail along the Northern Sea Route. Construction will be complete for five years.

How will be change the climate of India, if huge deposits of methane hydrates will melt in the Siberian swamps?
