What's new

Bangladeshis eat least meat per capita on earth

. . . .
Exactly.. I don't understand why some people get so easily offended even by fair facts, Sea food is rich in Omega fats.. Probably the reason for Bengali's to be considered intelligent, creative and artistic people

Everything doesn't have to be about brawn
And who considers u that:hitwall:

Its the smell we complain about

Scandinavia and Japan are far, your right next to us

.
I would have loved India to be the lowest in this statistics. Hope we do that in next survey.

.
This report is unbelievable to me. Because it shows Indians per capita consuming more meat than Bangladeshis.

Indians are majority vegetarians or vegans......this is a BS report in my opinion.

Her credibility went out the window with that single statistic.

Bangladeshis are humongous meat eaters. But they are also voracious fish eaters as well.......

Meat is costly in North West India. For example le one boiled eggs costs 10 rupees, 2 costs 18 to 25.

One piece of fried chicken costs 25 rupees and i can eat 6 to 8 pieces without even burping due to by size.

Nope

Go to table 5.1

And no, fish isn't counted in the survey as meat. Traditionally speaking, meat is generally considered to be land animals. So fish don't count. If they did, Bangladesh would certainly be higher. It's an old Catholic thought.

I thought I was gonna see Nilgiri posting even Gambia or Mozambique consumes more meat than Bangladesh.....then I saw they consume more meat than India as well.

Consuming less meat is not a bad thing tho. Sticking to veg and fish is much more healthier. But how can someone not eat this after seeing

By looking at the Calorie amount. :P
Seriously, stick to chicken or fish. It's healthier. Try out some turkey too.
Should also note there's a large amount of pollution contributed by the beef industry. If we can cut down the meat we consume substantially it will be a serious environmental benefit.

Well I looked at OECD AGRI-PRODUCTS FIGURES and sure enough our meat consumption is very low, but India is by far the lowest.

0.3 difference isn't that far from Bangladesh. It's pretty close.

Among meats I only like Beef tho. Chicken is meh, Mutton has a weird smell and pork is Haraam....

All meat tastes good to me, needs to be prepped right to bring out each one's particular strengths....often depends on the particular cut.

And why are you keeping halal, when you are doing other naughty haram stuff? :P

Nothing like a good pork chop to hit the spot.

And it measures just beef/veal (not sure if buffalo included in that....often called as carabeef)

Chicken and mutton are overall much more popular in India.

Even more popular is the seafood, eggs and of course vegetarian legumes/lentils.

I think thats the bulk of protein intake covered....outside of nuts and milk (also consumed in India to decent amounts).

Some places have pork consumption too, esp around goa and cpl other christian heavy areas (north east) and also some castes in Hinduism consume pork. Pork Vindaloo is popular in Goa as far as named dishes.

Exactly,Many Indian and Pakistani have a habit of ridiculing Bengali for eating fish. But they don't know, most prolific fish eater in this world are the Japanese and the Scandinavian.
Well, these are interior people who are devoid of coasts. We, in Kerala and coastal regions are fish eaters may be equal or more in fish consumption when compared to Bengalis. Actually, We the coastal regions are the centres of civilizations, the rest are the interior people. :D
NEW DELHI: Consumption of fish in rural areas of Lakshwadeep is over 16 times the national average with Goa at second spot. Contrary to popular belief, Kerala and West Bengal come third and fourth respectively. In rural areas of Chandigarh, there are hardly any takers.

Huh, didn't notice at first. Now I'm surprised that it's THAT close to India.

Anyway, though I've been working hard to reduce the meat in my diet I don't think I could ever give up fish and poultry. But, I'll stick away far from pork.

Well if you had to pick 2 for health goals....I guess you could do a lot worse than poultry and fish.

India could be close because they count the buffalo meat as beef...they are pretty similar after all....kind of like "poultry" not being just chicken. A lot of even the buffalo meat is done hush hush in India (as in form filled out as buffalo gone to retirement pasture, but instead goes to rural abbatoir etc) so I am not sure how accurate these estimates are.

You need established (and taxed) supply networks to make good estimates I feel....a lot of it is underground esp in rural areas of South Asia.

Though I can't deny I still enjoy a nice beef burger every now and then, I try to limit myself to one beef meal per week.

Wouldn't India make the distinction between buffalo meat and beef pretty clear though?

Though there's understandable skepticism in these estimates, it's best to take them seriously for the sake of development.

BD people use Fish often and not meat!
It is because fish is more available in BD comparing to meat. But, know also that BD per capita fish intake is about 10% of Japanese consumption. Japan is surrounded by sea and catch huge amount of fish. BD people away from the sea do not like sea fish. This is another reason for low consumption. Anyway, total protein consumption is very low in BD.
