Bangladeshi tourists in India cross 1.6 million in 10 months

.
True, India being the only effective neighbor of BD, people don't have much choice. Most of the Bangladeshi youth who go to India do so to get the thrill of visiting a foreign country. It is not like they go there because they find India something like an attractive place. Another factor is, most of trade transaction, border crossing of goods with India, more than 10 billion(official and unofficial) are done by the Bangladeshi businessmen. I have read a news article that, all those Indian cloths coming into Bangladesh, are owned by Bangladeshi businessmen who have clothing store both in Kolkata and BD.They are doing business in both countries and supplying Indian cloths in Bangladeshi market from their own store in Kolkata.Same is true for many other sectors. So, a lot of Bangladeshi businessmen has to back and forth between BD and India.Another factor is lack of patient-doctor understanding and trust in Bangladesh which is driving a lot of patient not only in India, but also in Thailand, Singapore or USA.

Once they have a store here in Kolkata, they try to settle down in Kolkata.
You are exaggerating too much. In 2015-2016 year, 165,000 Bangladeshi patient gone to Indian hospital. And most Bangladeshi patient go to Tamil Nadu for treatment, not Kolkata. How it fill more than half of bed in Kolkata? While 20 million Bangladeshi patient sought treatment in Bangladeshi hospital in a year. Bangladeshi patient who go to India or other countries are no more than 2 percent of all patient who need medical attention in BD.

Garments industry produce western outfit.People buy traditional cloths from India.Indian cloths are comparatively cheaper than Bangladesh and visa is now easy. That's why many people from Khulna, Jessore region from where Kolkata is near, go to shopping there. But this trend will not last long. If you can read Bengali than read these article,

What is your sources of these percentage ? Most of the fruits in Bangladeshi market comes from Bangladeshi sources. Some fruits which don't grow well in our climate like Orange, Apple or grapes comes mainly from Bhutan, not Kolkata.Imported pulses in Bangladesh mainly comes from Nepal.90 percent potato? There should be some limit of bullshitting, Bangladesh is the 7th largest potato producer in the world. Our production exceed 10 million ton per year and we export potato in world market. Why should we import it from India? Mustard oil? Unlike Indian bengali, we don't use mustard oil for everyday cooking, Soybean oil is used in BD.Mustard oil is only used in BD to make Vartas(if you know the meaning). Not for main cooking.Indian onion is considered low quality in BD and people only buy it in lean season.Otherwise people prefer 'deshi' onion. 70 percent life saving medicine? what is your source? 98 percent drugs in Bangladesh comes from domestic sources, other 2 percent, which are some rare ingredients comes from mainly EU and USA.Bangladesh is a net medicine exporting country, if you don't know.Last year we exported around 100 million dollar worth of medicine.

1. May be you are right, but i am petty sure more than half of patients in Kolkata hospitals are Bangladeshi. May be they didn't came with legal visa.
2. Make sense. You should try to beat India in traditional garment sector. Don't waste hard earned money in development of other country.
3. I have a grape tree in my home in Kolkata. Just saying.
Fruits - Major fruits in Bangladesh Banana, Mango, Pineapple, Jackfruit, Papaya. Rest all are less than 1.5% of total fruit production. Of then Banana - 23%, Mango 25%, Pineapple - 6%, Jackfruit - 28%, Papaya - 4%. Notice you produce Jackfruit more than anything else (alomost nil commercial value). Rest all you have to Import either from India or some other country. You are right apples consumed in Bangladesh are majority from Bhutan, but the trade is controlled by Indians. All moves through a market known as posta in Kolkata.
Pulse - You only cultivate use 4% of your land for pulse cultivation. I am wrong it should be more than 95% not 100%. Nepal or not you import more than 95% of pulse. Now Nepal is a Pulse importer state, it produces .19 Lakh Tones a year.
Potato - My mistake
Onion - Desi onion, Local production, my foot. Low quality Indian onion, you are thriving on it. Since India has set min overseas sale cost it has now reached a record high. It is out of reach for poor Bangladeshis. Even you are thinking of importing from your arch rival Mayanmar as an option.
Medicine - My mistake. You have improved a lot. But 98% is an over estimated figure.

So bottom line Bangladesh produces rice, potato and Hilsa (without Musturd Oil/onion). Medicines are manufactured in Bangladesh.
Rest all including the dailyware/ethenic clothes needs to be imported.

.
This figure show how much they love india
It is not India that our people love. It is Ajmer Sharif, Agra, and old Delhi that fascinate our tourists apart from the medical tourists. Note also that most of the medical tourists also visit Ajmer Sharif.

.
1. May be you are right, but i am petty sure more than half of patients in Kolkata hospitals are Bangladeshi. May be they didn't came with legal visa.
Or may be Kolkata has very little hospital bed available so much so that few thousands Bangladeshi patient fill more than half of all bed ? Your visa theory is also wrong. Now a days, Indian hospital don't admit foreign patient without medical visa. Not even with tourist visa or business visa, and you are saying, Bangladeshi patient are being admitted without any legal visa?
Fruits - Major fruits in Bangladesh Banana, Mango, Pineapple, Jackfruit, Papaya. Rest all are less than 1.5% of total fruit production. Of then Banana - 23%, Mango 25%, Pineapple - 6%, Jackfruit - 28%, Papaya - 4%. Notice you produce Jackfruit more than anything else (alomost nil commercial value). Banana, mango, jackfruits, pineapple and guava are the most commonly eaten fruits in BD and all of them come from domestic sources.Orange, apple, malta and grapes are eaten less commonly and imported from 47 countries around the world, India is just one of them.Total fruits import cost Bangladesh 10 billion Taka per year. While the monetary value of domestic production of fruits is many times more than the import value.Read this article-

Pulse - You only cultivate use 4% of your land for pulse cultivation. I am wrong it should be more than 95% not 100%. Nepal or not you import more than 95% of pulse. Now Nepal is a Pulse importer state, it produces .19 Lakh Tones a year.
Pulse is a minor agri product, so 4% share of land devoted to it is about right.Bangladesh produce 5 lakh ton pulse every year and import 1 lakh ton. That means, BD is 83% self sufficient in pulse consumption.Rest of 17% are coming mainly from Nepal. So we don't have any dependency upon India for this product.Read this article-
https://bdnews24.com/business/2014/01/24/bangladesh-to-import-1500-tonnes-of-lentils
Potato - My mistake
OK.
Bangladesh produce 1.9 million ton of onion per year and consumption is 2.3 million ton.So self sufficiency is 82%. Rest is imported from India.Indian onion play significant part only in lean period of the year when domestic onion price shoot up in off season just before the harvest. Which is now current time.Today, Bangladeshi onion is selling at 120 Tk/kg (very high price, 4-5 times higher than on season), while Indian onion is selling at 75 Taka/kg in local market. So many people are buying Indian onion, but it will not last when fresh local onion will hit the market 2-3 weeks later. Read this article to learn more about onion in Bangladesh-
https://bdnews24.com/business/2015/...rt-as-onion-prices-hit-the-roof-in-bangladesh
Medicine - My mistake. You have improved a lot. But 98% is an over estimated figure.
98% percent is not overestimate. You can google it.

Done! Analysis complete and we are doomed!

How will we ever live this down? Such shame! :partay:

On a more serious note - any sources for your claims??

. .
good this will help local indians as tourism will increase economic activities in India which will eventually decrease poverty levels.

BTW how many returned safely?

You live in USA, no issue for you.
Just google and you can find stats for my claims like me.

One question you guys, I can't solve this riddle.
Here in UK a whole Rohu or Katla of 3.5kg costs around 8pound. All are imported from Bangladesh.
In Kolkata the same costs around 12 pounds.
Again I know people exporting the Rohu or Katla (of Hyderabadi origin) to Bangladesh.
Now the puzzle is how it is possible economically?

For previous claims I don't have links handy with me now.
But for this claim here is my link
http://www.cybex.in/exports-data-india/katla-fish.aspx

My Bhakt friend - 'Indian cuisine' in restaurants mainly signifies food from the subcontinent. Sanghis claiming patent on 'Indian' cuisine now.
I know a Indian restaurant in central London near Euston. It is run by Bangladeshis Muslims. It is a pure vegetarian restaurant. The board says North Indian.
I use to love the lunch buffet. Here is a link from Zomato.

Because of Farakka and introduction of salinity in the main rivers, Rohu and Katla production has really gone down. Add pollution from textile mills (effluent discharge) in rivers and health-conscious people have serious aversion to fish nowadays because of health concerns as well as high price. Hyderabadi fish is fine as long as it has been frozen properly, we don't discriminate on citizenship of fish. Pole-vaulter fish is fine with us.

If Bangladeshi Muslims can cook vegetarian food to Indians' liking, I don't see a problem with it. To think otherwise would be rather silly. Food habit in Bangladesh itself is versatile. The same family having Paya/Nihari one day, will eat vegetable items the next day. No issues.

.
90% of fruits, 100% of pulse, over 90% of potatoes and onion, even carps (type of fish), over 80% of mustard oil (main ingredients for fish) are exported everyday to Bangladesh. Even more than 70% of life saving medicines are exported
This part is exaggeration. However I agree that we import some agricultural products, but we produce huge portion in Bagladesh too as you must not forget Bangladesh has some best quality agricultural land in the world along side some parts of India.

And with point 1 I agree. Lots of peoples specially peoples from border ( west Bengal border) districts try to go to India instead of dhaka, simply because treatment in kolkata is far more superior to dhaka.
In Dhaka mostly we get foul type treatment with high cost and in kolkata treatment cost in much lower, doctors are very friendly, they try to serve patient instead of stealing money from them.
I went to Kolkata many times to take treatment. I am talking from my own experience like many Bangladeshi.

In short Indian medical care is light year ahead than Bangladesh.

Despite my annoyance to India,( no offense it's not personal, or even not social, it's just political), three things in India I really love and they are medical care, education system and democracy.

Sir I asked you a question. Fish price imported from Bangladesh to UK cost less than the one sold in India. Again Bangladesh is importing fish from India. How it is possible in economic scale?
For the second part I just wanted to prove Bangladeshi restaurants try to banner themselves as genuine Indian One to attract customers. Otherwise nobody would have written Authentic Vegeterian North Indian dish.

I like your analysis. You are a sane voice here.
Just want to know the reason for the bolded part

Thanks we will discuss it another time and in another thread.
It's wise to stay on current topic as much as we can :-)

165,000 Bangladeshi patient gone to Indian hospital
The figure is deceiving.
Think about the 1.6 millions of tourist. They went to India with tourist visa right? 2/3 of them or more will visit their doctors too atleast one time.
2 percent of all patient who need medical attention in BD.
Wrong statistic. The problem is you heavily rely on online news links and their analysis!
But those are far from reality. The reality is different. It is not correct that more than half of indian hospitals are full of bangladeshi, but there are significant numbers of bangladeshi peoples go to India to take treatment, and they are much larger in number than this 2 percent statistics.
