Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina has said that they look forward to working together with India in the next 50 years and beyond towards realising the shared vision of building a peaceful and prosperous region.

‘The year 2021 was a historic one for the Bangladesh-India relationship, marked by celebrations of epochal events and engagements at the highest levels,’ she said in a message to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the occasion of the Republic Day of India.

On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh and on her own behalf, Sheikh Hasina extended her warmest wishes and heartiest felicitations to Modi and the people of India on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day of India.

The prime minister thankfully recalled Modi’s visit to Dhaka in March 2021 to join the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the Independence of Bangladesh, the birth centenary of father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and 50 years of establishment of diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and India.

‘Your gracious presence on these occasions had added extra enthusiasm to the celebrations and allowed us to further consolidate our excellent bilateral relations, which so happily exist between our two countries,’ she said.

Hasina recalled with gratitude the support rendered by the government and the people of India during the Liberation War in 1971 that set the foundation of a unique relationship.

The joint celebration of Moitri Dibosh, across the globe, held on December 6, the day when India recognised Bangladesh as a sovereign and independent State in 1971, projected this special relationship, she said.

‘The unique ties of close friendship, cooperation, and trust between our two countries have flourished and grown from strength to strength in recent years. Many new frontiers of cooperation alongside all traditional areas have been identified, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic,’ Hasina mentioned.

She said, ‘Let this joyous occasion be a special one, as India is also celebrating ‘Azadika Amrit Mahotsav’ to mark 75 years of her independence.’

She makes it sound like BD has a choice.

Good comment. :-)

But diplomacy exists so countries can say these nice words and play each other like a nice Sarangi.

Neighborhood cannot be peaceful if neighbors themselves are de-stabilizers and ethnic cleansing agents next door (on both sides).

Myanmar either has to see regime change or balkanization.

Ditto for India too.

The leadership in both of these countries have to stop their collective short-sighted idiocies and get with the "program".

Just looking at where China has already gone should be a hint.

Mature leaders make pleasant comments towards each other. Prickly matters are left to be communicated by other officials.

Wouldn't really care if the leader isn't mature as long as they're supporting will of the people.

All her or Modi's talks are "Baat ki Baat", and nothing more. After two laws were enacted in India against the Muslims, BD cannot be any closer to India.

Hasina Bibi needs Indian support to protect herself from American and EU pressure. EU representative has already expressed concern about the human rights situation in BD.

So, Hasina needs India. Note that suddenly India has raised questions about the PA troops killing in 1971 in BD. Hasina is just reciprocating.

How is BNP popularity in Bangladesh today? Are they likely to win the next election? 🤔

They have their followers. But in most likelihood if a fair elections occurs, it will go to a national unity coalition govt. composed of representation from all parties. Technocrats and Business people are becoming more active in politics, which most people see as a healthy sign.

@Atlas bhai, what was the alternative of a CTG govt. again? Sorry I forgot.

In a parliamentary form of govt, if no party or coalition gets a majority of seats, it will be a hung assembly and elections will have to be held again. How will a govt composed of all parties be formed?

A coalition gov. between the ruling party and primary opposition is very unique. I've not seen or heard of anything like it. Has it happened in BD before?

@Bilal9 bhai , জাতীয় ঐক্যমতের সরকার। এটা আসলে একটা সর্বদলীয় সরকার যেখানে সব দলের প্রতিনিধি থাকবে।
